Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Where to find good used RVs

Hi all and Happy 2012!  I'm in the market for a used diesel pusher for full-timing.  Apart from RV Trader, does anyone know of any other good websites?  Thank you.

Liz

Hi, Liz.

I don't know anything about this place, but it does get referenced a lot when folks are looking for used RV's.  I don't know if it is the same as RV Trader, since I've not been following that one.

PPL Used RV's

PPL is based out of Houston, TX.

Good luck with the research and looking.

Terry

Thank you Terry. I've come across PPL in Houston and have been keeping an eye on their inventory.

All the best,

Liz

Hi Liz,

I currently live in the Pentagon City area right now.  I recommend looking at the Tiffin RV Network Site under their classified section. http://www.trvnclassifieds.com/

I've found the DPs advertised there are usually within the NADA advertised prices and you can obtain all kinds of information from owners regarding the make/model/good/bad etc. you're interested in.

In addition, Reines RV is located Manassas and is probably the closest RV Dealer in N. VA if you want to "kick the tires" on any DPs there as well.  They carry Tiffin DPs so you can do a price comparison.  http://www.reinesrv.com/

Hope this helps & good luck!

Since Tiffin is on our short list, I checked the site. The cheapest coach listed is $104,000. Unfortunately, that's far out of our price range, so we'll keep looking. Reines didn't have anything tonight that looked interesting, either, but it looks like they do have a large selection, so I'll check them again another night.

Liz,

You'll find a bunch on ebay both private party and dealers. Set you search perameters to whatever mileage you're willing to travel to look at the RV. I found several on ebay that I looked at and almost purchased, just wasn't fast enough. I eventually found mine through the RV Trader.

I was willing to travel 500 miles to look and potentially buy.

We bought off E-bay.
But I researched the RV
and took possession before releasing funds for the seller via wire transfer.

motorhomefinds.com - is a site the aggregates RV Listings from lots of sources including Craigslist, eBay and such. Great way to scan the country for what you're seeking.

It has been mentioned in my house that "WE" are going to the NC show in Charlotte in Feb. Unless "WE" have money that I don't know about, it should be an uneventful trip.

Hitting the shows is a great way to see/figure out what you want as well as talk to the bigger dealers.

Jim,

"WE" did similar, but in our case it was, "Hey, let's go check out the RV show" as we drove by the fairgrounds on our way home from work here in Oklahoma City.

We had a 26-foot Rockwood fifth wheel at the time and I figured that she wanted to look at maybe a 30', or at most a 32'.  Well, WE went into the bigger 36' fifth wheels instead.

That started the process that ended up with WE owning a 38' Mobile Suites.  For some simple former farm folks, WE are living in the lap of luxury.

Watch your wallet when you go in....

....just sayin'.

Try ksl.com Classifieds. Will be in the western states, but a lot to look at.

Thanks Hanger. I'll check ksl.com out.

I'm having most luck with RV Trade and eBay.

I thought I found "the one"--a 2000 Newmar Mountain Aire, but with new tires, batteries and some other things, it's not within my budget.

We just bought a 2001 Tiffin Zephyr from a very reputable Dealer. They spent over $10,000 fixing items that they Guarenteed would work, so beware of buying from an individual as You would have to pay for those repairs. Good Luck!

Since these websites deal with location I would watch snowbird locations for good deals, especially towards end of season (March/April), since people upgrade and/or decide they won't be coming back the next year. I know the place we are at in Florida has many RVs for sale for these reasons, many on RV Trader since signs are not allowed. So watch Florida, south Texas, Arizona and southern California right now for deals.

We were just next to a couple that bought a 2003 Dutch Star for a great price from the lot owners since medical issues were causing the sellers to move into a condo. The buyers stayed for two weeks while everything was fixed and to learn about their new RV. (Yes, they picked our brains until it hurt since we have a Dutch Star.)

Thanks Bill.

I will certainly keep a sharp eye out for coaches in Florida, south Texas, Arizona, and southern California.

I am currently considering a 2002 Dutch Star near Dallas which may work out for me. I will be towing a Honda CR-V as well. What a small world!

If the 2002 isn't "the one," I am in the market for a diesel 2002 or newer Dutch Star with 2 slides, newer tires, and a washer/dryer. My budget is limited to about $55-60k. My dream DP would also have satellite and solar panels.

If you hear of anything, please let me know. Thank you!

I wanted to give you all an update. I found and purchased a 2002 Newmar Dutch Star. I found it through Google and RV Trader. I am so excited...it is my first motorhome!

Thank you all for your help. Perhaps we'll see each other on the road.

One of the best sources for RATING any rv's quality is RV.org.  You pay a membership fee to access their database (either motorhomes or trailers) and then can research model by model to get an independent opinion on their safety, quality, etc.

As far as finding an RV - www.oodle.com is a great source.  It pulls web ads from lots of sources, and you can narrow it down to a radius from your home, or go country-wide.  It is free to register and once you have done a search, you can save it so that whenever a listing is placed, oodle will email you the link.

Saves a lot of self seraching time, but PPL is always a good resource.  And they post the floorplans, which is rarely included in most web listings.
