Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi, my name is Tom Martin, and my beautiful bride is Carol. We have always enjoyed traveling, but neither of us has RV'd. I recently retired (last month), and hopefully Carol will also very soon. Our plan is to purchase a fifth wheel and spend the next ??? years enjoying this wonderful country. I just found this site and have already gained a lot of information from the forum. Nice to meet you all, and hope to see you on the road soon!
Welcome to the forums. Feel free to ask questions as there are a lot of knowledgeable folks here willing to help. Good luck with all the research, planning and looking that are coming up for you.
Terry

Tom and Carol, Ditto to that welcome! Charlie retired early this year and we started off on our adventure, having no RV experience before either. The folks here say there many ways to RV; we are having fun going on the road a few weeks at a time. No plans to sell the house...yet :) Take your time finding the right-for-you rig and get on out there! Pat K.

Welcome. We plan to be on the road sometime next year. Exciting times. You will meet alot of nice people here, always ready to help with whatever. Perhaps we will meet 'down the road'.
Welcome to the forum. We now full-time but are static 'till June.I spent a lot of time learning from this forum and still do.One of the good things about the lifestyle is that you have lots of flexibility in how to approach it. We had been RV'ers most of our lives as we've always been self employed and having a rig of any type let us get away on short notice. When we decided to full-time RV,we decided to sell the house which we were told would take a long time.It sold in three weeks,so we decided to travel cross country to see our children & grandchild, last summer(our business operates with the school year). We were gone 2.5 months did over 6000 miles, and came back to finish our school contracts, to the very nice RV park we used to use for quick gettaway's. So far,so good. Point being we had lots options availible to us which might not have been otherwise open. Everyone is different, but reading the experiences of others will at least give you information needed to properly consider your needs. For example,we are currently sited between two people in large Class A coaches. One of them just loves that type of unit, and uses a scooter for shopping etc.The other says they wish they had a 5th wheel as there is more "space", but say they wouldn't want a diesel truck as the only transportation they have. My point is that you can get lots of experiences shared before you make those kind of decisions. You will find this a great place to share & learn.

Welcome Tom and Carol!I think you will find this a great place to learn about RVing and it is a very friendly place to ask questions.
If you can possibly swing it, you should really consider coming to the Spring RV-Dreams.com Rally. There are a few cabins at the park and you may want to consider staying there if you don’t have an RV yet.The Rally is a simply a great place for newcomers to learn about RVing in general and Full-Timing in particular if that is your plan.
Either way, a lot of “newbies” and a few of us older RV’ers (older experience wise – old is becoming a lot more relative these days) show up and have a great time helping one another.Howard and Linda put on a good show and I can assure you won’t be bored – or go hungry.
So, give it some thought and welcome to the family.
This is a great site to learn about full-timing. Sherri and I had never RV'd, when we jumped off the cliff by selling the house and all the furniture. We have been full-timing for eight months and so far it is great.
I would recommend attending the RV-Dreams Rally next April. We drove cross country last April to attend the rally and the information we learned will be with us for as long as we are on the road.

If you can come I am sure it will be worth your while. The thing about these Rally’s, IMO, is that they are all about RVing and helping one another with the life style whether it is fulltime or, in our case, part-time fulltime. We travel over 6 months a year or more and continue to meet a lot of nice people, especially at the “Dreams” Rally. There is a huge knowledge base and it seems to be really helpful to all.
Hope to see you there and don’t hesitate to ask questions.
I'd just like to add that for those of you considering the April Rally (alas,I'm stuck here 'till June), the Buckhorn Lake Resort is an especially great park. We stayed there for a week, this past summer. Even in the heat, it was super. We enjoyed the town of Kerrville and the surrounding area,as well. So in addition to all the myriad of benefits to attending, the location will only enhance it. I really wish we could go.If any of you possibly can,do so.

Welcome Tom and Carol. It all starts with a plan. If you can make one of the Rallies, you will get a chance to put names and real faces together. Very friendly folks here. Lots of experience. We hit the road Jan 9th.

kneedeep we have been there and done that... we had no RV experience before we retired and left full timing... feel free to read our early days of our blog as we mentally and physically prepared to live this lifestyle...
Welcome aboard. You'll find lots of good information on this site. If you haven't decided on your particular RV, I'd recommend reading Howard's early journal entries and how he came to his decision on his fifth wheel.
Welcome Tom and Carol! :) Your plan sounds very familiar. We've been planning for a couple years now and are down to one year left. Maybe we'll see you down the road. :)
