Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I have been pulling my new 43'er for about 5 weeks now and you would not believe the amount of Jerking a/k/a "chucking" or "bucking" I experience! It is so bad sometimes it feels like the pinbox is going to come through the rear window.
I can't figure what is causing it. I have a TrailAir pinbox. I have inflated it from 70-95 psi and no difference at any level.
I am level so that is not the problem.
Have any of you experienced this severe chucking? Have you found a solution?
Two things come to mind. If you have the Trail-Air Tri-Glide with the adjusting plate at the bottom, make sure that all 9 grease zerks have been greased. There will be three on each side of the pin box and then three that have to be reached from the rear of the pin box and those three are up inside the pin box in the middle of each "rod". Those need to be greased every 1000 miles of towing.
I don't know if the pressure in the pin box bladder is so important. In my case, I always air our pin box bladder up quite a bit before hooking up to the coach. Then, once I'm hooked up and the rig is level, I use a step ladder to get into the bed of the truck and let air out of the pin box bladder until the bottom of the top part of the shock absorber is down to the top of the arrows.
Also, if you have the Trail-Air suspension on the axles, make sure those are aired up to the proper amount.
We pulled our 38TKSB3 from Oklahoma City to Grove, OK last month and the only place we had bucking or chucking was on a stretch of elevated roadway on the Creek Turnpike on the South side of Tulsa. Oklahoma has some strange engineers for the design of some of our roads.

Hi Kyle! Glad you got those new tires to protect your precious cargo :) As to the chucking, we added a Henson TS3 Trailer Saver to the equation and we don't have that problem. Take care, Pk

Terry, thanks for the ideas. My pinbox is greased and the airbags on it and the c/p suspension are at their proper levels. Something else is going on to cause the problem.
PD, we have a Curt 24k on right now and would love to get the TrailerSaver...but, man, $3k for that is steep. Nevertheless, if I knew for certain it would eliminate the rodeo ride, I would do it. EDIT: I just took a look at this again and it is only rated to 20k. I need at least 24k.
I am wondering if the problem lies in the truck, not the hitch or pinbox. I wonder if adding some helper airbags to my trucks suspension will do the trick.

Kyle there is a 32,000 lb capacity Trailer Saver, I have owned one of them its number is TSLB2H it does mount different but a good installer will have no issues. We installed ours. I do believe the TS would really make a difference. Your 5th wheel has a Tri-Axle and I don't think you have enough Pin weight, however I'm only guessing. I have never had any chucking with the Trailer Saver. I use a standard pin box on our 2010 Mobile Suites 38 RSSB 3 and the pin weight is 4,200 lbs. Have you checked your pin weight??? Good with your fix. We also had to have CM Truck beds and two 6" steel plates to insure we would have no issues with our pin weight. Happy Trails....

Good input, thanks. I will look into your suggestions. How do you determine your pin weight? I have suspected that could be an issue...but I have a lot of weight up front: generator, storage, bedroom...maybe not enough though.
That is a gorgeous truck! What is its 5er towing capacity for 2012?
