Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are about 3 years away from our fulltiming dream but could potentially have a unique opportunity to move it forward. My company is asking me to relocate to El Segundo and I was hoping to find a nice safe campground where we could live in our 5th wheel while we are waiting for retirement. Internet research has not given me many options. Any ideas out there. I have heard the horror stories about the traffic out there and would like to avoid long commutes on the 405.
I can't give you a long term option but we recently stayed at Dockweiler State Park on the beach in Playa del Rey, which is a little west of El Segundo. El Segundo is what LAX is located. We were parked in the flight path from LAX airport and the jet noise was outrageous from 6:00 am to 1:00 am, so take that into account if you find a campground in that area. I suppose you'd eventually get used to the noise, but a large jet taking off or landing about every two minutes gets a little tiresome!

Life isn't a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safe in a pretty and well preserved body; but rather to skid in sideways, used up and totally worn out yelling - WOO HOO - What a Ride!
The traffic horror stories are true, but it really depends on the time you commute. For example this morning I left the house about 15 minutes later than usual and immediately noticed a difference in traffic. There were more cars on the road. The key is to be on the road before 7AM and leave work around 3:30PM to beat the traffic. You will experience a traffic tie up at least once per month, in reality the delay will only be about 30 minutes beyond your normal commute time. I just automatically leave 45 minutes earlier than needed for any important appointment. That way I'm always on time or really early.
Carpool or Metrorail is the way to go. If you can join a carpool, most of the freeways have carpool lanes and that helps you to get from point a to point b quicker.
The metro rail system is a great option and allows you to park your RV farther away from El Segundo. One of the guys I work with, drives into work Monday morning and then uses Metro Rail the rest of the week. He leaves his car in the office parking lot. That way he has a car available in case he needs it through the week. He drives home on Friday night. There is a Metro Rail station at the far east end of El Segundo and a good bus system to get you the rest of the way to work.
Some of your options for long term stay: - East Shore RV Park in San Dimas. It's a long commute (30 miles) but accessible via Metro Rail and bus routes. http://www.eastshorervpark.com/ - Malibu RV Resort http://www.maliburv.com/ - KOA at Fairplex in Pomona/San Dimas http://koa.com/campgrounds/los-angeles/ - Long Beach http://www.goldenshorerv.com/
There are a variety of Mobile Home/RV parks in the area. The problem is there's no easy way to find them since most don't list in any RV websites. You would need to visit the area or do a yellow page search. There are several in Torrance, Redondo Beach, Lomita and Carson cities. Here's one in Torrance http://www.rvparklist.com/rvpark/487/
Good luck....
