Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Just wanted to share some of the last weeks adventure, Virginia and I moved the Rig south to Myrtle Beach for the winter. We store it at Willow Tree RV Resort the site of the RV Dreams Rally a few years ago... If anyone has not yet been I highly recommend it, Howard and Linda choose it for the rally and I am glad they did, we have been back there several times since the rally. We left Connecticut and had a great journey south stopping along the way at three different campgrounds. The truck preformed flawlessly, I LOVE driving it, with every mile I become more comfortable and confident in the trucks and my ability..we stayed mostly at PA parks, they are usually good values. The weather was good most of the trip, fires and BBQ,s every night. Interesting people along the way, we LOVE IT. The only good thing about being home is the fact that every day I am making steps toward getting on the road full time..., We took a longer route than we had to, from Connecticut the direct route takes you south on 95 through the worst parts of NY, The Goerge Washington Bridge, this area is dirty, smelly, pot hole laden, crowded, low overpass MESS....So from CT we headed due west, then only after we cleared the NY Mess did we head south, this probably added 3-4 hrs to the trip but having done the GWB once, I was happy to add the extra hrs.....Everyone stay safe on the road and above all, remember life is short HAVE FUN...Gene

Gene,

Glad you had a good trip.  Also, thanks for the tip on driving through the NY area.  While Jo and I won't be that way for a long time, I'm sure there will be a lot of others who will find that information about the "NY MESS" as valuable information.  Especially that part about the low bridges.

Speaking of being back, Jo and I and our youngest son were on our Colorado vacation from October 7 through October 14.  (We didn't take the Mobile Suites so we could save the money from hauling expenses for the next week.)  The next week we attended a SOITC Central Region rally at Grove, OK from October 17 through October 23.  That event prompted taking the Mobile Suites.  For a regional rally, it was pretty well attended with over 25 units there. (SOITC is the Suites Owners International Travel Club association, which is made up of DRV Suites models.)

Gene, what route did you take to bypass NYC?  Our daughter lives outside Boston and no doubt we'll have to get around The City somehow either coming or going.  I've driven semi in the area of NYC you described and it was no fun at all so I have absolutely no urge to drive the RV there!

Ron I was heading south from New London Ct, so I headed due west to Newburgh NY, then headed southwest to Saylorsburgh PA. From there I just headed Southeast toward Myrtle Beach, I basically swung wide, real wide, but well worth it IMO.My trip heading north to Connecticut last year from Myrtle Beach took me over the GW bridge, I put my destination into my Cobra Truckers GPS and it took me right over the upper level of the GWB...My Rig is 13'6", I was going under overpasses that read 13'7" and one 13'6", in addition I thought some of the pot holes would rip the cabinets off my walls, it was also bumper to bumper traffic, never again.....G

Thanks for the info and tip on Willow Tree Resort - I checked out the web and have added it to our list of places to stay. We will be looking for a nice place to stay for part if not all of the winter 2012.

Thanks, Gene.  Actually that's not quite as roundabout a route as I was thinking!  I'm not a fan of I-95 at all, nor actually any road in NJ so my plan in PA was to head over toward Harrisburg and pick up I-81.  On the northern leg I'd probably take I-84 up through Hartford.  As I remember the CT roads are pretty good and the scenery is decent through the middle of the state.

GENECOP - not ever having been in the area of Willow Tree RV Resort, is that South Carolina and would there be a need for lots of A/C during say December - March?

Actually RVP Willow Tree is about 40 minutes from North Carolina in South Carolina, the winters are mild but not hot. We have been there in Dec and January, believe it or not we had dustings of snow, some snowbirds where even complaining that it was not warm enough. The days as I recall got to be around 65 Degrees, nights went into the low 40,s.....Being from NY, it was plenty mild for us.....G

RVP, in the winter I only stay weekly, electric is included in the site fee..I can't say enough about Willow Tree.....G
