Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Poliseek is a Progressive reseller, that's who I chose after doing some research. Good prices and good service for about 3 years so far.

If I remember correctly, GMAC has insurance which is marketed through Good Sam.  There is a couple that had a fire that destroyed their Mobile Suites.  If I remember their comments correctly, their insurance paid for full replacement.  That is a feature you will want to have in your coverage.

Also, when checking the insurance coverages, make sure they cover you if you are a full-timer.  As you may be first traveling without a home domicile and address, they may consider you as full time, even if you only plan to use the RV for 6 months a year.

TERRY - FULL COVERAGE IS ON MY LIST - I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE FULL TIME COVERAGE AT THE ONSET AS THERE ARE A LOT OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS THAT WILL NOT FINANCE IF FULL TIME. I WOULD WAIT UNTIL FINANCING IS SECURED. I WOULD ALSO WANT TO LOOK AT PERSONAL EFFECTS COVERAGE.

Well certainly Bill - no yelling was intended - some times the caps lock gets turned on and not even noticed - when you get older you may appreciate big letters :>)

When our RV insurance was up for renewal this past Summer we gave Miller Agency a chance to quote it, based on Howard's recommendation.  We were sure glad we did!  We wound up with a policy that would give us back full replacement value (not current book value) should the RV be totaled AND it was actually less money than the previous policy we had from State Farm.  Maureen at Miller shopped it for us and provided 3 options all with different companies.  Even though we were dealing long distance everything was done via email and was no more trouble than if they were local.

They are first on my list of calls to make - good to hear that others have gotten good coverage and saved money. Thanks.

Our insurance is with National Interstate. We have full replacement coverage and personal effects coverage. Also full time coverage. Initially our coverage was not for fulltimers, but it was an easy conversion to fulltime. One nice feature we have is a decreasing deductible. Ours starts at $500 and goes down each year we don't have a claim. (I believe it's 20% a year)

We've had 2 claims with them in the past 3 years and have not had a problem. One time they replaced the roof and the awning and the second time rebuilt the large slide on our unit. We had a little bit of challenge getting them to pay for the slide damage as it was water related and the adjuster claimed it was due to negligence, but we got a manager involved and working with the repair company they came to understand the damage was the result of the severe ice storm that hit Arkansas last January.

National Interstate is the company we wound up with through Miller Agency.  Good to know they will take good care of us should we have a claim!

Miller Agency and Good Sams are two good sources. Looks like we will go through Good Sams. Rates look a bit better for us.
We did find that Melanie at Miller will dig deep for best package they can offer. They just could not beet Good Sams for us.

We have been happy with RV Advantage through Farm and City Insurance, http://www.fcisinsurance.com/rv-advantage.asp. Right now they have us with Allied, which is a division of Nationwide. Previously we have had National Interstate and Progressive.  We have been with Farm and City for eight years and they have always been helpful and positive.

Thanks Waggintails and Bill - appreciate the feedback. We will most likely register in New Mexico for the remainder of 2012 -(April - Dec) until we can do more indepth research for a home base. We are thinking Florida at present but will check everythng out. New Mexico I'm sure is not in the cheaper insurance states but it seems easier to do until we have all our ducks in a row - if they ever stay still long enough!

We went with Geico on this coach . We are home based out of Texas, but currently residing in Oklahoma, Geico rated the policy out of Oklahoma saving us about $175 bucks ! Now they told me that if I end up somewhere else for more than 3 months that I can revert back to Texas or use the new location.

Thanks ken and cindy - we are looking at Texas as a possible "home base" starting in 2013. I'll add Geico to the list - appreciate the feedback.

I've searched the various insurance related threads and it looks like Progressive, Farm and City, and National are the most popular choices historically. I saw that Nick Russell had some issues with National several years ago and also a few folks that had issues with Progressive (again, several years ago).

Are those the best choices these days? We're going to get quotes and compare coverages; but at this point we're leaning towards going through our USAA membership for it but they outsource full timer insurance to Progressive. They're usually pretty particular about who they team with so that gives the USAA/Progressive combo a little more credibilty in our eyes…still, it's good to verify. We're also going to get quotes from Miller and possible a couple others we saw recommended.

Looking for coverage for the 5ver, contents, replacement cost coverage, umbrella liability rider, and storage unit rider.

The truck and car will remain with USAA as you just can't beat their customer service.

Thanks.

I have a quote from Chris Yust with GMAC and will also be getting one from Millers. Talked to USAA and they've shifted from partnering with Progressive to partnering with Foremost. The price looks good, they have replacement cost coverage, and actually knew what full timing was when I talked to them; but I figured I would see if anybody has any horror stories about them. I see some complaints when googling but then you see complaints about every insurance company out there so I'm not sure that means much. USAA is a great company and since they partner with Foremost I'm inclined to think that Foremost must have a pretty good reputation since USAA is particular about who they deal with…but you never know.

Thanks.

If you a member of a credit union, try Liberty Mutual. I just upgraded from a 2007 to a 2010 fifth wheel and my coverage went up $7 per year. No typo, only $7. I am not a full timer so maybe that played into it as well.

I have had Good Sam insurance carrier since 2000 on the RVs. They are very knowledgeable in all areas of RVing and have taken care of three claims with no hassle. They have the option of taking off the road insurance and leaving the liability if you are parked for extended periods; just don't forget to call and reactivate when you go on the road. The policy also includes personal belongings and basic towing coverage. Works for me! I had State Farm on my truck. Pieere

I don't know if it's just because I'm in NC but GMAC through Good Sam's said I had to pay commercial rates for my 2003 Chevy K3500 dually...so I'm through Statefarm.

If you have commercial tags and registered as such; that may be the reason. Not sure; worth a ? to your agent. Pieere
