Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I'm a newly single mother with two homeschooled boys and a worthless house cat. It has been the dream of the boys and me to spend a really significant amount of time traveling in an RV. So now, looks like we can do that.
It's almost too good to be true. I work online as a medical transcriptionist and the IT folks at my employer's main office have been telling me all the necessities I need to be able to work and travel (i.e. laptop requirements, air card, etc.) Hard to believe this time next year, we can be on the road. I have some ducks to get in a row but my plan is coming together and we are all excited!
I'm really glad to have found this forum and I look forward to being able to get answers to all my questions.
Welcome to the forums at RV Dreams. You will find a lot of friendly folks here with a lot of knowledge. Feel free to ask questions and have no concern whether a question seems "dumb" or not. We all like to feel that even a "dumb" question may come with a different perspective for us to consider.
Like the "useless house cat." I'm sure you will get comments from cat lovers, some of whom will agree with the statement. Check out the RV'ing Solo category to find others who are single. Also, although there isn't any "category" for home schooling, I'm sure a number of forum participants are doing just that.
The Technology category will help with keeping in touch for your business. Just remember that air cards will require one to be in proximity to cell towers.
Take your time in researching for an RV. Go to the RV shows, check out all the RV dealers in your area, and spend a "considerable" amount of time in any RV you are interested in. Pretend to be cooking, working, getting ready for work (oh, wait....you work at home) and other activities you do so you will have an idea of any restrictions on what you can do.
Should you find a brand or model you really like, see if there is an online association of owners with a forum where you can read about the problems or other issues that the actual owners have. If you wish to register with the forums to be able to ask questions, most will welcome you, although they may not be as friendly as the folks here.
Regarding forums of any kind when looking at particular brands or models. Forums attract a number of people who are looking for a solution for a problem. Don't get the idea that the brand/model you are interested in is not a good one. There are likely a lot more owners happy with their units that don't post any problems. If in doubt, ask questions similar to this: "Given you were to purchase a new RV today, would you purchase the same brand or model you currently have?"
Have fun with the research and planning.
Terry

How exciting to be able to share this great country with your boys.
We too are in the planning phase and just joined this great site a couple of weeks ago.
Everyone is so helpful and we have already learned so much. We have 2 cats, not necessarily worthless but pretty spoiled and I am fretting over what we are going to do with them when we get on the road fulltime. I would like to say that they will be fine with traveling but don't think they would be too happy about it.
Are you planning on taking the cat and are there any other fulltimers out there who travel with the furry friends. We are buying a 5er so guess the cats will have to ride in the truck with us. That should be fun considering they scream bloody murder the whole way to the vets office a couple miles away!! yikes and HELP!
Hello and Welcome! What I wouldn't have given to take my kids on the road when they were growing up! This will be memories and also such a learning experience for all! Now about those cats......Casper was 12 or 13 when she came on the road with us. She hated riding in the car and meowed all the time. When we started out in our B+ motorhome she loved it! Slept with us and outside on leash every day. When we got the dp it was a lot bigger and she ran for cover right after the slides came in. After we got going she would come out and sleep right up by the drivers seat. She enjoyed being outside all winter(think she got depressed at home and not being able to be out) . We lost our beautiful ragdoll last February and I miss her every day. Take yours with! Find a litter box that fits somewhere out of the way and teach them where it is...........the rest is easy.
2 cats shouldn't be a problem. I have read that alot of people bring their furbabies with them. We have 5 to consider. We befriended a stay and she had her 4 babies in our closet. All the people who said they wanted one never showed. Now, fast forward 9 months, and we still have them. We may take 1 or 2. Anyone want a cat?

I think our Wally =^..^= won't be traveling with us. He gets car sick just going to the vet. Plus, he's an escape artist. Any open door is an invitation for him to dart as fast as he can. I'm not one to let him run loose outside as he was declawed when we adopted him. I don't want to spend all my travel time fretting over whether or not he's going to make a break for it and end up lost.
We have friends with 2 cats and they were unbearable in the truck, so they left them in the fifth wheel in the enclosed bedroom and never had a problem.
Patches our Calico rides in a crate up front with us. Qianna (Standard Poodle) and Cody (Golden Retriever) share the back seat of our truck. In the fiver, Patches' liter box is under the desk facing backward to keep Qianna and Cody from snacking between meals. Like a typical cat, Patches sleeps where ever she feels like sleeping and when she wants to. Qianna shares the foot of our queen size bed. Cody lays in the hall facing the steps - typical guard dog style. The dogs share Alpha roles, while Patches just squeaks. Gotta love the fur babies.

My cats are far from worthless... they help keep my blood pressure down...
Years ago I used to take my two cats with me (now gone, but they've been replaced) when I drove to South Florida for Christmas with my family... a little over 600 miles... non-stop, except for gassing up (can't do that anymore).
I drove a Ford Probe hatchback, and had a litter box under the hatchback cover, and a bowl of water and some dry food on the floor by front passenger seat.
They would yowl for a while, but finally calm down, and I generally wound up with one sleeping in my lap and the other lying on the hatchback cover watching the world go by out the back window.
The only times it ever got dicey was when one of them decided to use the litter box. Depending on whether or not it was #1 or #2 it could be a real stinko...
Hi and welcome to the forum. I always wanted to take my kids on the road when they were younger but that never happened. Now we take our furchildren.
We travel with one 8 lb Shih tzu, two 75 lb Goldens and one 20 lb Ragdoll cat. They love the travel and we love their company. Take the furbabies with you if possible.
Welcome to the life....you are going to enjoy it.
