Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Well, Oklahoma City is working towards breaking a record for the number of days in a year where the temperature exceeds 100 degrees. The old record for OKC is 50 in one year. So far, we have roughly 37 days, the next 7 days are forecast for over 100, and then we still have three more weeks of August after that.
All in all, Oklahoma City is doing pretty good as we haven't had many die from the heat this year. But, the year is still young.
Our Mobile Suites is comfortable. It is equipped with two 15K A/C units and I am now EXCEPTIONALLY GLAD that we ordered ours that way. The bedroom stays the coolest, being the smallest "room" to cool. Also, we have purchased two Hunter fans to help with air circulation. They have been well worth the money. They are the oscillating fans similar to the old time fans. I think Hunter even named them the "Retro" or something. We bought the first one at Bed, Bath and Beyond and the second at Target.
We keep our blinds closed, and Jo "pinned" a cloth panel with a Hummingbird on it over the window on the living room slide that faces the evening sun. That helps a lot to cut down on radiated heat into the coach. That particular window has both blinds and that cloth panel to block the sun.
Now, to remain comfortable, I am shirtless and in shorts, as I am also overweight and creating plenty of my own heat. (Shirtless and in shorts and overweight......that is not a pretty mental picture. Sorry for ending a posting in such a fashion.)

I was just relieved to see the signature was Terry, not Jo.

Our AC is holding it around 80 and keeping the humidity down. One of the things we find that helps is to get out in the heat and adjust to it to some extent so that going back in at around 80 feels really good.
It's going to be over 100deg all week here in San Antonio, and has been for days. One day last week coming from watching the grandkids in Austin, the temp in the truck read 109deg!! Our A/C in the Cameo is doing good Bubbadan. We do have two, but mostly use one at a time as we are on 30 amps, camped out in our driveway. Gearing up for another great adventure starting mid week! Heading north where it will be a little cooler, hopefully. Terry, your "fashion twin" is sitting here in the living room with me :) Pat K

Alright, y'all!! Any more chuckling, and I'll have to post the real image.
As for the fan and the Hummingbird cloth panel over the window, here are some links to those images, just in case someone is looking for a heat-blocking idea that seems to be working, and one to Hunter's website with an image of the Hunter fan I spoke of in the first post.
With the fan, here is a link to the model we have on Hunter's website. Incidentally, they also have it in a bronze color; I think Model number 90406 is the one for it. At this link, there are several "views" of the fan (Model number 90400) that we have.
Today the high here in Monroe, WA (NE of Seattle) was 71. If this years temperatures haven't convinced a few of you to go full-time and seek cooler places in summer I don't know what will.

Thats why I am happy to live in the Rocky Mountains because it does not get that hot and nights are cool. Will make up for it this winter when I am shoveling snow in sub zero temperatures.
no triple digits yet here in Indiana but has been in the 90's and very humid for the past month. Our a/c (we only have the one in the lr) runs almost continuiosly the entire daylight hours to keep the temps in the upper 70's inside. We have been comfortable (inside that is) but are looking forward to a cool down so the a/c can get a much deserved break.

Update...Today it's 102deg here, just north of San Antonio! In the LR the thermostat reads 89 :( and the one in the BR reads 95 :( !!!! The thermometer sitting on the table beside me under the fan, reads 89 also. Our A/C is doing the best it can but it's an uphill battle.
Pepper, my little Pomeranian just asked to go out...and then once "out", she proceeded toward the(s&b) house. We went inside and she plopped down on the cool tile floor. Made no effort to come with me when I left to come back. She is my shadow and never leaves my side!
If we were in this heat out on the road, I'd have to cool her down with a wet towel to the belly.
Boy, do we need rain in Texas!

Current temp here in Ashdown, AR is 102. That's at almost 6pm! Forecast for the week is 100+ every day. Very happy with the ac performance so far. The bedroom unit is running on low cool with the temp set about halfway. The living room unit is on a thermostat and occasionally even shuts itself off! A little fan blowing into the garage/living area is keeping that space comfortable as well. Thermometer in the kitchen says 78.6.
I DID have to defrost the refrigerator for the first time in the 3 1/2 years we've had this 5th wheel.
And I THINK a bird died of heat stroke. It was laying outside our trailer door a few minutes ago when I went out to turn on the grill.

We use a fan called Vornado. It sends a whirling flow of air on the output side that you can feel several feet away. We have both a static and oscillating one. The oscillating one is in the bedroom and keeps us cool at night along with the AC.

Jim,
First of all, welcome to the RV Dreams forums. There are a lot of friendly folks here with a lot of knowledge. Any questions and comments you have will be welcome and appreciated.
I have heard good things of the Vornados as well. In fact, I think I first read of them over on the SOITC (Suites Owners International Travel Club) forum.
If you haven't seen them yet use your search engine for the search terms of SOITC and Fifth Wheel Forums. SOITC is specifically for those owning and interested in the different Suites models. 5th Wheel Forums is more of a generic website with categories for different brands, but Suites owners make up about 90+ percent of the activity on that forum.

We are sitting in Canada. Although we have had some warm weather we haven't needed the AC yet. That is fortunate because we are moochdocking in my parents yard and using their 15 amp electric. So no AC for us no matter how hot it gets.

Another HOT day here in Texas! DH decided to crank up the Onan5500 so we could use both A/C's today. Wow... much better, thank you, Dear. Yesterday was a nice experiment(using one A/C) but let's don't go there again when it's over 100deg!
Somewhere on the forum it was said, "anything less than 50amps is camping out". :) PK

While we are stationary at our S/B, and highs are in the high 90's. The RV is able to handle to heat just fine. Ceiling fan in RV livinf room stays on. During the heat of day, we use a fan (similar to what Terry has) in the bedroom that moves cold bedroom air down the hall to living area. Two AC's running add to our S/B electricity bill.
Bigger concern is keeping the refrigerator cold. We recently added solar screens to our S/B that seem to help a bunch to keep the heat our. Many folks say that keeping the sun off the refrigerator side of RV will help it stay cold. I'm looking at designing a hanging solar screen for the outside of RV. The screen would not interfere with air flow. I may include an extra blower to create more air flow.
Temperature in refrigerator hovers between mid 40's to 50'; freezer stays in single digits. Slider adjuster in refrigerator is all the up which should make it colder.
Shirtless? Not me. I've found that a cotton T-shirt is cooler than shirtless. When shirt collect moisture, put on a dry shirt. Works for me.
Cooler weather is coming.
Fixed typos.

Bill nailed it.79 today in McMinnville,Oregon the hottest day this summer so far.
OK, you just sealed your fate. I'm gonna get a little doll with a beard, a big box of pins and I'm gonna put a pin in it everytime I look at it. We are at day 36 of over 100 deg, and the rest of the week is projected to be over 100. Yep, if you feel a little twinge, it ain't your old bones protesting the cold, it will just be another pin.

Whoa! I keep an wireless thermometer in my fridge and I never let it get above 40. I would think above 40 is too warm for most items you keep in the fridge. Still haven't repaired our fridge, my appointment isn't until the 25th, but I plan to get a residential unit installed if at all possible. I am so tired of worrying about the fridge.
Strange that the middle of the country is experiencing this heat wave. Where we are in California the daytime temps have been below average for most of the month of July and August is starting out the same way. We've only had a handful of 100's so far.

We have been in very hot places (Arkansas,Oklahoma) was the hottest. Colorado in the low desert has been in the upper 90's. We have two A/C's of course, 15,000 and the 13,500 we also have the Hunter fan. We keep the bedroom door closed, shades down and the two awnings out. We keep both A/C's on medium fan and the temp set at 72 in living area and 74 in bedroom. All except Ark. and Okla. the temps have been in the upper 90's.
But today we arrived in Red River New Mexico and the temp was in the mid 70's the lows have been in the 40's. Will use no A/C while we are here. Will move to Taos just over the mountain in 8 days. But still the temps should be good. But then near the end of Aug we will move to Santa Fe New Mexico, and will be using the A'C's again. We have used the A/C's more this year than any time in the last 6 years.. Normally we only have to use the 15,000 A/C but the 13,500 has been used during the daytime on this trip.
The Hunter fan runs 24/7, thanks to Terry we bought the Hunter the next day after seening his. But I will say no 5th wheel is designed to be energy efficent, however the Suites has done the best of all 5th wheels we have owned.... I highly recomend Road Runner RV park in Red River New Mexico.

I am in Brentwood, TN and this week we are under heat and ozone advisories. Today the heat index was 110 degrees. Went out this evening and at 9pm the temp on my truck's outside temp said 95.....at 9 PM!!!!! This is crazy....Louisiana weather not the hills of Tennessee!!!
Melanie, we are from Tennessee but we are in Red River New Mexico, and the temp is 61 degrees and the highs are in the 70's and the lows in the 40's. We try to go West each summer to escape from the heat and humidity. However we will go to Florida in Nov and return to Tn in April 2012 to escape the cold. Happy Trails...

I've been in Colorado on the eastern edge of the Rocky's for two months. It was 60 this morning and probably won't get above 80 today. The air conditoner has only been on twice in all this time.
Unfortunately, I am headed back to TX in a week. I'm thinking of filling hundreds of balloons with Colorado air and letting it out slowly when I get there. Anyone know how many balloons a motor home will hold?

Well, I seriously doubt that you will get those balloons to Texas. If nothing else, I'll hijack them before you get home. We've had one day of "cool" (that being 98 degrees) in about the last 3 weeks or so.

I have been read all the post and wishing we were where some of you are, in the cool. It looks like we here in Texas are going to break a record, one we didn't really want to break, the most 100+ days in a row, we are heading for #43 with now rain or relief in site. I am so tired of getting out of a cold shower and startin' to sweat or sweatin' in the shower. I feel like I am 16 again taking 3 or 4 cold showers a day.

Well, some relief may be in sight. The last couple of days we've had showers and today it never even got close to 100.
And, in about two months, I imagine I may wish for the heat. Our youngest son did get a "promotion" at his work and begins training soon for that. They say he can still go on vacation, but it has to be after he has had a bit of "on the job."
So, it will be Mountaindale RV Park near Colorado Springs in mid-October for a week. We've never been in Colorado vacationing in the "cold," so it will be a new experience. However, with a bit of luck, the Aspens and other trees will be changing their colors.
Awesome!!!
Terry
EDIT: Corrected time to vacation. Can't even add 1 and 1.
