Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I have been lurking around for a long while and reading, learning a lot, posting some from time to time.
I think these questions have been ask before but here goes again. Get out the popcorn.
What made you decided to go fulltime?
Do you have any regrets?
How long have you been fulltiming and do you still have a home base?
My want to seems to be getting stronger everyday, it seems that I just can work up the nerve to make the move. If I am going to do this I am going to have to make the move soon before I run out of time.
I don't think I am looking for encouragement just information.
Thanks to all who answer and have answer my questions before.
Dan

We didn't want to go home so we sold the home
Nope not a one. Not even that we should of done it sooner as the situation wasn't right.
An e-mail will soon come your way. In fact, you may see it before you read this. It's about camping in Colorado.
As for us, Jo and I just got our house sold in May after 3 years of trying. Thus, I don't have much to say about a lot of your questions, but you know that we are planning on traveling once we retire and get out of debt. We have moved into our fifth wheel and are living in it full time.
We don't miss the larger home. We don't miss the larger yard to mow. We don't miss having to walk 20 or more steps to the bathroom. (However, Jo did just complain about the two steps she has to climb up to get to the bathroom/bedroom.)
We don't miss all the "STUFF" that is appropriate with a home. While we are in a mobile home park and do mow our yard, it takes me a whole sum of about 40 minutes to mow around the RV. And, that is only because I tend to mow the "yard" just to our south because it is "close" to our home. If I only mowed my own yard, it would only take 20 minutes.
Jo said the other day that she thinks she likes the smaller space so much better than the 2250 sq ft home. And, I think I really have to agree with her. In our house, a lot of times Jo would be in one room and I in another. Here, we are together more.
Good luck with the planning and researching. If you ever get to Oklahoma City again, send us word and we'll try to get together. There is a Braum's Ice Cream Store only 3/4 mile from where we live.
EDIT: OK, Dan. I lied. I've lost your e-mail address, so I've sent you a private message via the RV Dreams messaging system. Please respond to the private message with your e-mail address.

Dan, you're going to be flooded with responses from everyone who loves this lifestyle - who can't imagine living any other way!
We have lived full time in our pickup camper for 16 months and laugh when we remember how people said we would be divorced in 3 months after living in such close quarters. Nope! Each day finds us happier than the day before!
The process of getting rid of all the "stuff" was the most freeing experience ever! Nothing I sold, tossed, gave away or donated has been missed - and that is coming from someone who used to live in a 2 story house with every nook and cranny filled.
There have been no regrets whatsoever. It takes me 10 minutes to clean my house! I know the feeling you are having - just chomping at the bit to just do it. We're feeling the same as we're almost ready to hit the road . . . looking forward to taking off in November.
"The process of getting rid of all the "stuff" was the most freeing experience ever!"
That is so true! I will be changing my lifestyle to full time RVing in a few months and am getting more excited by the day.
To prepare, I have been doing just what you described..having garage sales, giving things away and throwing a lot away! It is amazing how good it feels!
As with any major life decision it can make you second guess yourself, "create" reasons why it won't work etc. Once I MADE THE DECISION" it has been the most anticipated move in my life.
We were able to retire early, too much work maintaing house and property, didn't like the Illinois winters, have always loved to travel, kids scattered all across the country.
No regrets what so ever.
Over 10 years.
No home base. Didn't want to have to worry about it while out on the road.
My advice is don't wait. You never know what tomorrow will bring.
Jim

Dan - way to go! Pushing through all those "second guesses" is such a key to reaching your dream. That laser-focused determination will blossom into a beautiful, enriching and invigorating experience! I'm thrilled for you!
Hi, It is hard to consider making such an extreme lifestyle change with asking yourself "what am I doing here"? As proof of the value of the freedom offered by fulltiming, I offer this.
We've been F/T for three months now, after planning for years. We were most fortunate to have our house sell quickly and for the buyer to buy everything in it,as well. We have done 6300 miles since June 10, visiting our kids on the other end of the country. We've had to come back to run a business we own, 'till June,as that sale fell through. We are now in our RV, in a very nice park that we just love, for a monthly cost that is 25% of what we used to pay in the house. We are at a resort, with all sorts of ammenities, and no responsibilities. During our trip, we were twice offered good employment, simply when we mentioned that we planned to workcamp. Sadly we had to decline, as we are not totally free 'till June.
Having spent a few months on the road, and having to curtail that for 10 months, makes it clear to us just how liberating this lifestyle is.However, we are in our rig, in a place we just love, close to where we have lived for the past 12 years, but only 'till July. We will spend a few months a year here, always, as we are committed Nevadans. We have the freedon to do that, now. Contemplation of this lifestyle seems almost too good to be true, because it is almost too good to be true. That said,we still ask ourselves if we've done the right thing. in our hearts,we know we have.

What made you decided to go fulltime?
The prospect of getting "stuck" in another mortgage in a small community after moving away from the hustle and bustle of the city my husband retired in. I told him I didn't want to get stuck in a mortgage. I want to see this country. The next day he came home and said "Hey, how 'bout we sell everything, buy an RV and travel the country "fulltime" (not knowing that the word really existed!). It took 3 more years, but we did it!
Do you have any regrets?
Only one. We made new bills. We started out without any loans, but a few years into it, we bought a new rig, and a new truck. Trying to get those paid off, to free up some funds to travel more.
How long have you been fulltiming and do you still have a home base?
In January, it will be 7 years. We do not have a home base, but are always looking for that special place we'd love to come home to. :)
