Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My DH and I had made a decision on selling our house and getting an RV to live in and to do some light traveling...bad news today. I opened a can of worms and now I have no idea where to turn now. We wanted to keep part of our property and set up the RV on it and have a yard for our herd of 5 dogs and then we could continue to work and have a home base. No way is that going to work out. I asked to many questions and it seems that in my county no RV living is allowed on YOUR OWN PROPERTY! We can only set up in a park. Go figure. I found a place in a remote area where there are RV's parked and shacks and this is not a very safe place for me to be during the week by myself.
All our dreams of getting out from under a house payment and having an RV and doing some traveling on school holidays is shot out the window. The RV parks are not going to take us with 5 dogs. I know we could find homes for them but they are our kids. All the two legged children have left the nest and our 4 legged children took there place for the emptyness.
Gees sometimes life hits hard when you are trying so hard to get out of financial messes. We will just keep trucking on getting out of debt and pay on a house till we are 80 years old that does not sound like much fun for us. Maybe something will come along and things will brighten up.
Just needed to write and express my thoughts and disappointments. Thanks for listening.
Where in the country are you located? With a location forum members may be able to make suggestions on alternative locations to park your rig and will allow your dogs. I assume you already called the local RV parks to ask about long term parking and dogs. I wouldn't be so quick to give up on the dream...

When life throws you lemons, make lemonade. Not trying to make light of your situation. There are solutions at hand. They are just difficult to see from inside the cloud of circumstances. Keep the dream alive.

Not familiar with the area but undoubtedly others will know the area...how close to Manchester do you need to be? Are your jobs in Manchester or another locale? Have you already contacted the local RV parks to inquire about long term stay and pets?

Does the county allow mobile homes? If so, they can't know the difference unless you tell 'em. Call it a park model, or a trailer house, or something other than an RV! Dang idjits in an office anyway.
Put your RV on your property anyway, be discreet, can the RV be seen from the road? What they don't know will not hurt them....low key...Asking was the first mistake, most towns have these ordinances....
Just as another thought, check out mobile home parks for opportunities there in your area. If you are really wanting to sell your stix n brix, you may be able to do as Jo and I have done. We sold our house and are living in our RV in a mobile home park in Oklahoma City.
In addition to maybe having a better opportunity with so many dogs, you will likely find that the mobile home parks are cheaper than RV parks. Depending on where one looked in our area, the lot rents ranged from $190 per month to $350.
Now, that price would not likely have your utilities included, but it may still be cheaper than being in an RV park.
As others said, don't give up the dream entirely. Look for other opportunities.
Terry

DH is on his way home...we are going out looking and talking to some local RV places to see what we can do. No.. you can not see our house from the main road but we are in a little subdivision kinda with 3 duplexs, two mobile homes and about 12 or so houses. This is a dead end street. You can look up on Google Earth West Lynn Dr. Manchester TN and see the area from the air. Our jobs...my husband drives 95 miles twice a week to go and pick up his 18 wheel rig and back home. I am looking for a job about 35 miles from here. So moving closer to his work and my prospective would work for both of us. We have some family that has 20 acreas out in the boonies which we could real easily HIDE the RV in the hills. Just very rocky and unlevel but it could work if it has to. It would still be closer toward our jobs. It will be a real big pain to get it ready....water lines put in, electric, dirt drive, and something to do about the waste. But that might be taken care of with some TLC to the one hole outhouse that is still standing...LOL! We are not beyond doing the work just will take us awhile and $$$ which we do not have at the moment unless the house gets sold. We have a tractor and a bushhog that we can use. Just would have been easier with using part of our property instead of all that work...but if we have to we will make it work. I have lived in this area when we first moved here and we liked the area other than 10 miles to town but "no", I thought we needed another stick and brick place after we sold our place in Texas so here we are. GEEZS we could have paid cash for a new RV with our money out of our house that we sold 3 years ago....I guess we were having what I call a "brain fart", that sure has stunk since we both have lost jobs since we have been here. Oh well that is life and we will get over this hill some how if it is meant to be. Thanks for the ideas will let you know what we find out tomorrow from our adventures around the area. Margina
Margina, Just chiming in with a note to let you know we're thinking of you. We all make decisions that don't seem so good, looking back. That's why they say "hindsight is 20/20"! "But, it seemed like just the right thing at the time!" Try not to let it get you down :) Things have a way of working out. One of the best things about RV-Dreams.com is all the info and ideas that folks come up with to help you think and figure your way out of situations. Thanks for sharing your delimma; we will be sending positive thoughts your way :) and will be looking to see how this turns out for you. Take care, Pat

Well we checked out two campgrounds. We liked one of them but DH did not think we would have enough room for the dogs. The owners were so nice, we could put up a fence, a porch or anything that we wanted to do. The price was 400.00 a month. DH is still not sold on the RV full-time living. But we did make a big decision the house is going on the market next week if we can pull getting the house decluttered and yard sale started. We are just going to cross one bridge at a time. We are moving some stuff to storage this coming weekend and then yard sale on the 5th and 6th and money in the bank!
School starts next week and I am teacher without a classroom but I will find myself at the closest school doing volunteer work just so I can pull myself up and get back into the job that I love the most and stop the poor pity me attitude. Life is good just have to make it good and we can do that!
Looks like you are moving forward and somethimes (most of the time) we need to just take one step at a time. I feel your frustration.
My husband and I made this decision to buy an rv and live in it full time just a couple of months ago and have been researching ever since. His job in golf course management will be coming to an end at any time ( waiting on the bank and we all know how long that takes these days!). When it does we have an option of going on the road for some consulting work so we need to be ready to go at any time.
We put the house on the market 2 weeks ago and have lots of showings but no offers. We know that in this area the average time till an offer is 100 days so we are anxious but not freaking out yet.
We don't want to have to lower the price because that could put us in a shortsale situation. We have lost all the equity in the home we had before this one. We bought the one we are in now so that my elderly Mom could live with us. Problem is that we bought this at the height of the market and have had to put so much work and expense into it. So we walk away with nothing. My Mom passed away last Sept and she did leave us a little bit which could cover some of the expense of buying the truck and 5th wheel.
I guess I am rambling now cause all of the sudden I am freaking out and not sure how we are going to do this all. The emotions of leaving the s/b and family and feeling overwhelmed about choosing and caring for an RV which is something we haven't ever done. Moving into another house would be easy cause have done it many times but moving into a house that you take with you is another thing. However, every time I say that I can't do this and we are just going to have to stay put and wait to see if my husband can find another job in this area, I realize that is not what we really want to do. I need to just get over my fear and just go for it.
The one thing that I do know is that "If God brings you to it He will bring you through it" There is a reason we came up with this crazy idea and I don't think it was ours!!
Follow your heart and if it is aligned with God's it will work.
Thanks for listening, I needed to hear myself! lol
