Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Anyone ever purchased an RV from Camping World?

We have found a beautiful (online) motorhome from Camping World.  We have done some negotiating and are about where we wanted to be.  We would have to drive 36 hours to get this so I wanted to see if anyone had every purchased their rig from Camping World and what your experience was (good, bad etc). 

This is our first RV ever - the thought of buying so far away is a bit stressful but we just aren't finding what we want around us.  We have discussed price included any/all "fees" and I would get a complete run down in writing before traveling out there.

As far as price we have gotten them to about $5K below the "low" retail price on NADA for this unit and it looks pristine.  One owner and looks immaculate.  We would have an inspection done (before we go out there I would think).

Any suggestions...thoughts...opinions are greatly appreciated :)

No experience with CW - however I would get an inspection of the RV components as well as the motorized components. They have portable computer equiptment now that Ford or Chevy or??? can come out - hook up and do a good check out of engine etc. Also make sure you check the date on the tires - anything about 7 years or older needs to be replaced no matter how much tread is left. 6 new tires can run you $3,000 or more.
I would have an outside RV inspector do the inspection, not one of CW's. Make sure they do a pressure test on the holding tanks as well. Just some ideas. There are books out there that have complete check lists of things that should be checked.

What Painter said. I would contract with a qualified RV inspection guy, as well as a mechanical (engine and component) before purchase.

How old is the coach? Before we decided to go full-timing we purchased a 1994 Jamboree class C. It turned out to be a fantastic coach. The only issue I had with it was the anti-lock brakes. The brakes were fine, but the anti-lock sensors needed to be replaced. Due to it's age none were available, even from Ford. We didn't purchase from CW. I just wanted to mention the age factor in case you were looking at an older coach. I think age would be my number one concern, then mileage.

It is a 2000 diesel. Definitely wanted an inspection but good tips on the specifics. That would be a must.

I bought my motorhome from CW Indianapolis. Price was unbelievable on a 1 yr old still-new model. Great sales and service and we were able to camp in the parking lot overnight for free. They also gave me a free President's Club membership card, so it was a pretty nice deal.

The other thing you may want to take into consideration is a "plan that pays for problems with the RV" The thing to be careful of here is the age as most plans will not insure an RV 12 years or older. Good Sam has this limitation.

We bought from CW and after that, we won't go back. Nothing but hassles from their service department. I have more than one story to tell that would take too much time to tell here. I'd be glad to share these by PM or email.

Have you inquired about having it sent to another CW that is closer to home?  I don't know if they would do that just for you to look at it but if you agreed to purchase it they may send it to a closer CW where you could sign the papers and take delivery.  May want to ask--you never know.

We bought from a dealership(not CW) and had some service problems too. Stay cool, but firm and all has a way of working out. I would have bought from them or EBAy even......if they had what I wanted.
