Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
In October, there is a mini-rally in Grove, OK that is a regional for DRV Suites owners. We went last year to Carthage, MO and while there, it was announced that this year's rally would be in Oklahoma. Since there aren't many of us Okies as a part of the group, this year's organizers asked me if I could help with finding door prizes and small table decorations.
Not being the talented type myself, I hit upon the idea of trying to find out from crafters and others about nice inexpensive items that would be fitting to an RV. By that, I mean both pretty and/or functional. Crafts by the ladies or little "accessories" made by the guys that make maintenance or upkeep on the RV's easier or quicker was kind of what I had in mind.
So, I now come to the best source of information on the RV lifestyle, the RV Dreams forum participants, to see what ideas any of you might have. I am obviously going to have to get whatever it is with a very small shoestring budget.
What are your ideas? And, do any of you crafters sell your wares inexpensively?
Terry

Too funny, Terry & Jo. When you were at Carthage at that rally last October you would have been within 5 miles of our house in Carterville. Small world, huh?
I don't really have a good number, but I would reckon around 50. Jo is donating a bunch of "shelf fodder" like blown glass hummingbirds and stuff that we had in the stix n brix.
Basing on what there was last year in the way of attendance, I would guess that there might be 25 or a bit more in attendance. Last year's organizers managed to have enough stuff to get everyone something like 2 items each. I'm simply trying to duplicate that if I can.
In addition, I'm going to a couple of RV dealers here in OKC to see if I can get something in a "primo" door prize as a grand prize. In our case for items for everyone, I thought that handmade items for gifts would be better appreciated than stuff bought off of the shelf.

I often do this for our motorcycle gatherings. A good place to start is the local Auto parts houses. Ask for cleaning supplies, wax or anything that might cross over to the RV. Next hit the food places close to the sight and ask for 10, 20 or more "gift" certificates. Also don't forger about the local craft, ladies cosmetics store or even supper market. We have gotten donations from all of these places and some good feed back from the places or those who received the gift. Ask all recipients to let the donor know that they received their gift and that they appreciate it - next time you won't have any trouble getting MORE than you need. Good Luck!
Our biggest issue is that we live about 180 to 190 miles from the rally site. We won't actually get there until the day everything starts, and I kind of hoped that I could gather up stuff long before going.
We do have a Camping World here in Oklahoma City, so I could go by there and see if they could be of assistance. I had considered gift cards from WalMart, but usually when those are received the attitude is lukewarm at best. For some reason, even though RV'ers are looking to avoid getting "more stuff", they still (well, at least the ladies) like getting cute and/or frilly things.
Fortunately, I still have a few months, so I hope I can come up with something nice and practical.

I'm mostly looking for ideas at this stage. Mostly what I was asking about was simple yet nice looking items in the way of crafts. Once I got the ideas, I'd start looking around here for crafters that might do those things.
I am not asking for anyone to donate. I guess I need to put a notice up at our church and see if any crafters there can help. There might be someone there that has an idea of who to check with locally,

Maybe homemade firestarters? I watched a video on how to make firestarters from just about anything you can think of. I am going to save the cardboard roll from papertowels and even the tiolet paper rolls. Instead of tossing them into the trash... was going to cut into two inches or maybe 1 and 3/4 inch in size place on a cookie tray, with parchment paper. Next step place a short wick inside each one fill with some saw dust from a saw mill or where ever you can find shavings. Melt some wax (old candles or even crayons) and fill into the tubes. Place into freezer to cool down and then pop off the cookie sheet once it was done. You could even use muffin pans too.. But you can check out you tube for some neat ways on how to make firestarters. Hope you found this helpful.
