Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My husband and I want to downsize from a 1300 sq ft house into a fifth wheel with 5 dogs. Two Great Danes and 3 Golden Retrievers. We have looked at toy haulers and we are leaning toward doing this.
My husband is a truck driver and is gone 5 days a week. I am not allowed to travel with him so I am at home in this big house with 5 dogs.
I am looking to get a teaching job this fall and living in a RV is very appealing now. We want to stay put during the school year and take off during the summer or school holidays. Finding someone to care for all of our dogs is a chore and we worry about them while we are gone. All of our children are grown and have their own families so children is not an issue with us.
I show dogs at AKC events and having an RV is what a lot of people use to attend shows anyway.
We are looking for ideas on traveling with pets in RV's and making a change from homeowner to RV owner full time.
You really should not need any ideas. If you can handle your dogs....go RVing! There's nothing special about it and we have run into several RVers with similar situations. Find a vehicle where you will be comfortable with enough room for you and the animals and hit the road.
Only caution I have is some RV Parks & Government Campgrounds (state, fed and local)limit the number of pets (two is the norm).
However, a few of the private campgrounds also act as the host campground for dog show events, so on dog show weeks or weekends the pet limit is adjusted. One of our favorite RV Parks is Flying Flags in Buelton, CA. and we just happened to stay during a dog show event that was conducted nearby in Solvang. The park was full of dogs...it was a lot of fun. I remember going by one 25ft class C MH that had 6 large dog carriers lined up under the awning. The dogs have to be kept inside at night, that must of made for tight quarters.
A toy hauler seems to be the preferred dog show RV. The garage space is perfect for the carriers and provides room for grooming table. One toy hauler we saw, they had a screened in patio on the ramp where they kept two dog carriers during the day and then closed everything up at night.
Good luck with your decision.

Also some parks require proof of shots for pets. Best to call ahead to check on limits for breed, size, and quantity. Parks also demand leashs and picking up after your animals. Most of the pet friendly parks we have stayed in provided dog runs and doggie poop bags.

Thanks for all the help. I figured camping would be pretty much like going to dog shows. Crates, leads, walking etc. I do take shot stuff with me when I do that kind of traveling as well. Motel 6 has always been good about taking pets. I have been in a room with two adults and 6 or more dogs. I will just plan ahead to make sure we can park in places that are multi-pet friendly.
I think we have decided on a 5th wheel toy hauler went at looked at one today. Just have a few things to get the house ready to go on the market and I need to find a job. My hard part will be getting rid of STUFF! But I can see a more enjoyable life with out the stuff just getting there will be the hard part for me.
