Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Scooter to get around

I'm planning on putting a double scooter carrier on the back of my 2008 Georgrtown MH. I feel it might be better than pulling around another vehickle. Does any one think I will run into problems with this idea. I figure my better half and I can ride out 20 to 30 miles out into the surrounding area to see the sights. I dont know if other state are differant than PA. Here 50cc dont need any special license, over that I need a motorcycle license. Mywife can get away with 50cc, I can't, to big.Any opinions ,pros or con on this thought

While I am in no way an expert on scooters, I do have one concern with a rack on the back with them sitting on that.  Whatever one does in that regards, it would be advisable to really look at the options of what and how a "bracket" will be attached to the rear of a coach.

Bumps and dips on the road will transmit heavy loads to the "attachments" of that device to a coach.  If it isn't strong enough, you could end up dumping both scooters right in front of traffic.  If if it doesn't break off, that same "bouncing" effect might be damaging to the scooters or to what ever holds the scooters to the "bracket."

I'm also not an expert on motorhomes, but you might consider something that would attach to the front of the coach instead of the back.  Also not being a physics expert, if your rear "attachment" is some distance from the rear-most axle, would it not get more bouncing "action" than if one were mounted closer to the front axle?

I am sure that folks with a lot more knowledge with your issue will chime in and give much better advice and answers.  By the way, welcome to the forums.

Take a look at this website. This couple carries two scooters in the bus luggage area.

He often writes about taking the scooters out to go into town or to dinner. You may get some insight on the pros & cons of using scooters.

You might want to rent one first and take it for a 40-60 mile ride (20-30 out means 20-30 back) before you commit. For one thing, those scooters aren't very fast, so you're going to be sitting on it for a long time. Second, weather will be a factor, rain, wind, hot, cold...can make for a very miserable ride.

If your seasoned motorcycle riders then you already know the dangers of riding on 2 wheels versus 4...if not...I'd recommend taking a motorcycle rider safety course.
