Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. I'm Denise. My husband, Todd, and I are fulltimers living in New Market, Alabama. We are currently the camp hosts for Camp MACOBA, a rustic, primative campground that belongs to the Madison Baptist Association. We've lived up here in our 5th Wheel (a Cedar Creek) for a year and a half. Right now, my husband is still employed as a city fire fighter, but when he retires, we're ready to hit the road! Our house is on the market as I type. It's empty (something I'm really excited to be able to *finally* say) and we're ready to be done with it, but the housing market isn't the greatest for the time being.
We really, really enjoy RV life. It's simple, cozy and uncluttered (for the most part). We converted our back bunk room into an office/quilting room, so we both have space to do our respective things! Our kids come up and visit with us, and our young grandson has even had a sleepover or two (he's just 15 months).
Anyway, it occured to me that there is a whole network of great folks out there who are fulltiming, and I need to tap into it! Looking forward to reading your blogs and especially looking at photos, seeing how different people set things up.
My wife and I are also trying to sell our house. Today, we have an offer that started out over $50,000 below asking price. We keep going back and forth with the potential buyers through real estate agents in hopes of reaching a figure we both can live with. Their agent is probably the reason we do not have a contract. She was advising them thinking our house was 600 square feet smaller than it is. We are grateful that we have someone looking that can buy. Right now from what I read most buyers expect the home owners to just give their houses away.
We were on the road four months last year in about seven states and know the lifestyle is worth it. We were happier in 400 square feet 5th wheel than we are in a 3,000 square feet house. We met so many wonderful people and saw so many beautiful and interesting places. There is so much to see and do in this country and in my opinion RVing is the way to go. We have lived in RVs for months at a time while working but found our experience to be much different when travelling to a new site every four to eight days. Spending your waking hours doing interesting and neat stuff in a place you have never been beats working every time. It was also much different than going on a vacation to an area and staying for a weekend or a week. We rarely made reservations. When we got to a place, if we really liked it we stayed till we got tired of being there.
Good luck on your house selling and have a great time in your full-timing adventures.
My wife just retired but I have about four years to pursue other adventures, including getting involved in the Habitat for Humanity RV Club. Although a "Yankee" by birth, I lived in Bama in the late 80s and my daughter is heading to the University of Bama with Navigators for two-years. Maybe we'll cross paths when we visit our daughter. I forwarded your blog to my wife since she is an avid Quilter/Sewer and it looks like you enjoy many of the same things as her.
Welcome, Denise & Todd! Good luck with selling the house. You are so lucky to already have the RV. We are in the process of downsizing, sold one house, now getting ready to sell the second one. We can't wait to be on the road as well!
