Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Trade in

If you buy a used (Gas) Class A that is 3 years old and has already depreciated from new, does it hold its value if traded in after a year or two?  I'm thinking to start with a smaller rig (29') and keep the house for awhile.

Then if we really want to full time trade up to a bigger Diesel. I'm thinking we would probably be doing more miles to start and want to stay in parks rather than commercial RV resorts.  After a year or so we would probably be OK with staying put for a month or more at a time.

Depreciation of an RV is pretty steep in the first few years.  I found a depreciation chart somewhere online that showed a motorhome depreciating 20% in year 1, 15% in year 2 and 10% in year 3.  After that the depreciation drops to 6%, then down to 5%, etc.  It would seem that buying a 3 year old RV would be smart as long as you don't pay more than it's already depreciated.

Hi Merikay,

I agree with Ron and have seen a similar depreciation chart for RVs. On RV PAINTER's blog (http://rvpainter.blogspot.com), In his April 8, 2011 entry titled "RV Search", he listed several helpful sites where uses RVs are sold on consignment. The first one he listed has over 400 RVs for sell. They are listed by categories and by price. You can easily see depreciation trends that may help you in your search. I think they take trades.

The sites Richard shared are:  http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/

                                                 http://www.myrvsolutions.com/

Hope this is of benefit. If nothing else, you will see some great art work.

Steve
