Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Has anyone heard of a RV cover with an opening for the rooftop air conditioner. Plan on letting the RV sit in the driveway for a couple of months while the wife takes a sign language course. I've just put in a 30 AMP outlet on the side of the house, then took the RV to the dealer for some warranty work and some detailed cleaning etc and would like to protect it while sitting in the driveway when I get it back. The temps have been running upper 90's to 100's and would like to have the AC running? The AC and everything else works fine on the 30 AMP just don't know how everything will be if I have to let it sit in the sun and bake. Any info would be greatly appreciated. tx ck

Sounds like the short term rental of some INTERIOR RV storage space might be your best option. I question leaving it sitting in the driveway with the A/C runiing for 2 months??????
I don't think there would be any difference in it sitting in the driveway with the AC running, then living in it, in one spot for that period. Ours sat in the driveway before we sold the house and we had the AC set at about 78. Then we lived in it for about a month. in the driveway with the AC a little lower...maybe 75. But we didn't have a cover on ours. The only thing you might be concerned about is where is the condensation going to go to? It will go between the cover and the RV and not dry out?
With that said. There also would not be anything wrong with NOT running the AC. If it was sitting on a lot in storage it would be hot. I'm sure someone will chime in with anything else.

I don't see any reason at all to run the air if you are not going to be in it.RV's sit in the sun in storage all the time.Seems like a waste of electricity to me.JM2CW

RVing probably not a reality any more.It was a good time while it lasted.
We leave ours with or without the A/C on. In either case, you should leave the regrigerator and freezer doors open to allow air circulation. We also open one of the ceiling fan vents sufficiently to provide an escape for the hottest air. We have no problems.

As Racerguy says, there will be on damage. Do you think the dealers in Yuma, Phoenix, or Houston leave the air on on all those RV's sitting on their lots all summer? :

Thanks all for all the responses. It is hot here in San Antonio and my job before retiring for the last eight years has been maintaining 60 large aircraft in storage for a major airline in the high desert of Roswell, NM. So maybe I was going for a bit of overkill. I do get a bit concerned about all the "stuff" remaining in the RV while sitting in the heat. For sure if it were a long term storage event it would be empty and conditioned air wouldn't even be in question.
So considering the requested input from all ya'll it'll be no AC until we leave on our Maine trip in August before returning to Hershey in Sept. for the ralley. See ya'll there. tx ck

My question would be, why put a cover it? Are you trying to keep dust off of it? Simple is good. Unless you have some new fangled semipermeable membrane as an external layer there should be no need to cover it. These machines are designed to sit in the sun, rain, snow, and other weather for years. My suggestion would be to put a couple coats of wax on it (to facilitate cleaning) crack a window and roof vent if you feel the need, then let it sit. You'll never know the difference. The cover is also apt to provide a more "attractive" sanctuary for pests. Where do you store the cover? What ever you decide to do be happy with your decision. Good luck, and have a great time on your trip to ME.
