Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I am going to need some advice on how to best handle the dealer when going back to get repairs.
We have been in the unit for about 5 days and have noticed the following problems. Front air conditioner (Coleman Mach) bearings making some very bad noises. We have 2 fueling tanks, one is for the generator and one for the fueling station. Well the fuel gauges are swapped, so the generator reads the fuel station and vise versa. Shower leaks. Door handle broken to the garage. a few stripped screws here and there. The biggest worry is that the grey tank and the black tank are plumbed wrong. We have had to empty the grey water tank 3 times and have not emptied the black water tank as it reads 1\3 full. So I got a water meter and measured how many gallons it took to fill the grey tank and it was close to 35 gallons. With that done I looked up the specs and it said black tank was supposed to be 39 gallons. the labels for the black and grey handles for dumping are wrong as well. Come to find out this was only the second unit built.
We have sold our house and moved in to the rig and am now a bit discouraged about the tanks being wrong. I know the other things are pretty easy fixes but am not sure about the holding tanks ?
I am hoping my age 32 will not be a factor in the dealer taking me serious
Rusty, most importantly, you are setting yourself up to have problems with the dealer. You are going in expecting problems due to your age, just go in friendly and confident . The list that you made is all pretty basic stuff, the dealer should have your unit for the day and off you will go happily down the road until the next set of problems occur, don't sweat it, it's all part of the fun....Regarding your biggest concern, ,gauges and measuring devices always have a margin of error built in. Additionally your research methods that are making you think there is a holding tank problem are seriously flawed. As a rule, especially for a new Rver, your grey tank will fill up much faster, and that's a good thing , grey water is much easier to get rid of than black. You will learn how to conserve, take quick military showers, turn off the water while brushing your teeth etc...soon enough you will not be filling the grey tank as quickly, good look, Friendly and Confident....G

Rusty, Just make your list and s/u your appointment with your dealer. They should be more than happy to take care of your problems regardless of your age.
Our black tank takes 7-10 days before it fills and we are very liberal with the water when we flush (a good practice when not boondocking). Our grey tanks only about 3 days if we don't conserve. ie: "navy" showers, limited dish washing etc.
I know it stinks to buy a new unit and have problems with it, but as mentioned these problems are not unusual with any new rig and are easily fixed.

I echo Phil's response to you and add that your age should make no difference. You are the customer with a product which requires attention. 'Nuff said.
These sound like fairly easy fixes and hopefully there are no major problems. Remember that with any new rig (or new to you rig) there will be glitches. Been there, done that. I'm not making light of your issues by any means, simply trying to reassure you that we have all had problems. Believe me, Dave and I had problems; however, in the end all was resolved.
Our grey #1 tank fills much more quickly than the black, as we are liberal with our showers, use a restroom in our office since we are there most of the day and we have a #2 grey tank for our kitchen/galley. After a long day of work - especially grounds maintenance or tramping through the mill here - I am going to have a nice shower, by jove!
As suggested, make a list, schedule an appointment with your dealer and make sure everything is completed to your satisfaction. You are the customer and it is your home!

Many people, me included use the grey tank(s) to flush the stinky slinky very well. I never leave the grey tank(s) open, for more than one reason. All too often the grey users are not trapped as well as they should be. Then you have odors returning to the rig from others dumping or just from the sewer. So, all valves closed unless my hand is on the valve actuator.

We, too, or I had better say, Evin, also dumps the black tank first and then flushes the line by dumping the grey tank second. Great comment and suggestion to someone new to RVing. I agree no matter what you buy or what you pay there is good chance there will be problems and issues. Same with "sticks and bricks" be they "new or used." If you are not having problems and issues you are not using it enough. That being said, no excuse for the dealer or the company and its workers that build them.
As always, lots of prudent advice has been given here. Every new RV I've had, from A's to C's to TT & 5th wheel has been new. ALL have had problems. As advised, go calmly, with a list, Do not appologize for lack of experience or knowledge. They are supposed to have that, not you. Do ask lots and lots of questions about anything that concerns you. Most importantly,especially if bringing it back causes you difficulty, before you accept the unit back, make them show you that all the items have been fixed. After all these years, you'd think I'd know better,but I just had my new 5er in for initial adjustments,and didn't check it before I left. Sure enough, they missed a few things, and since I'm living it it now, bringing it back will be a real pain. I "assumed" that they did everything,so just hooked up & left. Stupid,stupid,stupid. You'll be fine. If you encounter difficulty, don't fail to mention that you are connected daily with several hundred full-timers, nationwide. Amazing what that revelation can do for a poor service attitude.

Thanks for all the comments. After a few days I have cooled off. I have made a detailed list and am going to call the dealer tomorrow. We are living in it now so will try to have them order the parts they need. Then Ill bring it in and have them fix the things on the list.
Same here re: the grey tanks. We have two greys - one for the bathroom and one for the galley. They are both kept closed except when dumping.
The black is emptied first, then the galley and lastly the bath in order of "yuckiness." The bath is only shower and sink water and gives that final good rinse of the hose.

Well I went to Explore USA in Kyle TX and they didn't seem too eager to work on my rig. They said it would be a pain in the butt to work on the Raptor we have. I asked if they where a Keystone authorized dealer and he replied yes. By then end of the conversation he agreed to work on it, but I dont know if I want someone to work on it if their heart isnt in it. My thought on this is the quality of work would not be to parr.
SO I guess I will take it back to the Explore USA in San Antonio (the one we purchased from) as they seem to be willing to work on it and fit me in this week. Its just a little disconcerning when someone that is supposed to work on something and they dont really want to.
You might also try Bob Jones RV in Houston. They have done most of the warranty work on our Keystone 5th wheel and have been a joy to work with. They are not a dealer, strictly a repair facility. The only challenge might be getting in quickly. They stay busy!
Btw, Bob Jones was recommended to us by the Keystone folks after we had a hard time finding a dealer willing to work on our 5er if we didn't buy it from them. Not a very practical option when you are traveling the country!

From experience, we have found that Keystone does not want to get involved between dealers and customers. Their customer service is great if there is a issue they can directly handle but it is a different story when the problem is the dealer. Been there, done that! In our situation the dealer refused to make good until I wrote a letter to Good Sam Action Line, then they could not do enough for us. I don't suspect you will have to resort to this level.
We recently purchase a 2015 Raptor 300MP and have similar problems. Don't sweat the gray and black tank. It was a labeling problem with ours that I detected and had dealer confirm.
They remedied the problem by labeling the tanks correctly. Black is left handle, Grey is right handle.
Also, had a problem with water leaking from fresh tank overflow line. That got fixed.

Question for you.... when filling your fresh water tank, what procedure do you use. The manual is terrible !!!
On mine, I must move the lever to fill, and then put water heater in bypass in order to fill fresh water tank.
