Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Life Is Looking Up After 3 Long Years

While I am gun-shy after losing one contract on our house, enough has been done to warrant me feeling a bit more confident with the latest one. If you REALLY want all the agonizing details, you can always check out my May 14 blog posting.

But, after 3 years of being on the market, we now have a contract on our house, the buyers have had their financing approved, the home inspections went off without any hitches (that I know of), and the closing date is this coming Friday, May 20.

Last Saturday, May 7, we moved the Mobile Suites to a mobile home park on the northeast side of Oklahoma City and began living in it full-time on Sunday the 8th. The mobile home park is located immediately to the west of a large RV park, Twin Fountains RV Park, at the junction of I-35 and I-44.

We are "static" full-timers as we still have 3 to 5 years before retirement and the traveling can begin. With the sale of the house, we will be out from under that large mortgage payment and will be able to afford to take a few more trips, including 2-week vacations.

Terry

Excellent! Now you need to work on that 3-5 years. Time to shrink it :)

Congratulations to you both! Your goal will be much closer with the house sold. I can imagine that a weight is being lifted off your shoulders also. I will read the "rest of the story" on your blog.

Congratulations, what a relief! I'll be interested in hearing how you two enjoy the static full time RV life. We are seriously considering doing that, in fact we are going to try it out this week to make sure that we like the park. We have 2 - 3 years left until retirement when the fun will really begin. Good luck to you!

Congrats Terry & Jo,

We may be in your situation in 16 months ... That is, selling the house and buying a DP to live in for 2-3 years before we travel full-time.  We would be in Viriginia, unable to escape the winters like you in OK, so let us know how you fair with living in the 5th Wheel this next winter and through tornado season.  This is a concern for the DW since we couldn't escape the heavy storms or winters.

I am so happy for you.  I hope to be a "static" fulltimer as well with in the next month.  My plan is to retire in early 2012.  In the meantime I will learn how to live in an RV and line up my next "adventure".      Good luck!

Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes through on Friday. Congrats!

And a note to Jake62 -- we spent most of the winter a couple years ago in West Virginia in our 5th wheel Fuzion Toyhauler. We didn't have any problems. Some other folks had frozen pipes in the park we were at, but we came through unscathed. We do have an enclosed underbelly that I think made a big difference.

Thanks Carol,

The DP we're looking at has a heated basement so only the fresh water line and sewer line would be at risk for freezing. I think there's other discussion topics addressing that. But since Terry & Jo will be "static" for a few years, just wondering how they're going to deal with it.

Of bigger concern to the DW are the "storms" which can bring tornadoes/hail, etc. I read on Howard's journal their recent experiences and "camping" out in the brick outhouses, etc. It's clear from his journal that Linda still has issues with this as well. If you're static, you can't even try to out-run incoming storms. I'm just looking for a way to discuss with the DW about how we stay in one place for 2-3 years and not suffer any type of damage or harm from the huge storms that roll thru Virginia. I know there's no guarantee, but that's why I asked Terry about his future "storm" experiences since OK often receives tornadoes/hail in the Spring/Summer.

Terry and Jo,

Congratulations!! Hope everything goes well for you. It must be a real feeling of freedom to be rid of all the care a house takes and be that much closer to your dream. We wish the best for you both!! We are getting our house ready for the market this year and hope to have it on the market in the next several months. Will do the same as you if it sells before we are ready to retire. Hope to meet you "on the on the road" someday soon! We are praying for your success.

WooHoo!  Doing the Happy Dance for you!  Thanks for sharing the good news - it stirs up hope in others who are following in your footsteps to live the RV dream!

We are static rvers - starting our second year as camphosts at a private campground in Missouri.  Surviving the winter was easier and more pleasant than we thought it would be - even with the blizzard that hit us in Februrary.  It took research and preparation and lots of trips to the helpful guys at the mobile home sales & service store.  Received tons more help on winterizing from them than what we got at the rv centers.

We're hoping to hit the road in November - been working on building an income from home that will replace the steady income from my 9-5 job.  Living in our camper has given us time to experience the lifestyle without the travel, except for several trips throughout the year.  We've had time to really get to know our camper from the inside out - top to bottom - without the stress of discovering problems while traveling.

The biggest obstacle we'll face when we take off in November is downsizing even more - isn't it amazing how we battle "stuff" continually?  Since we're not mobile right now, we use the truck cab for extra storage and even put some things in the campground storeroom.  Summer will be spent cleaning out - organizing - getting ready to set sail!

We love our life!

Terry & Jo, I'm so happy for you both.Terry, I've been the beneficiary of your excellent advice, and hope all goes well on the 20th. We are going to "static" as well as we have to work 'till next June. We signed a contract on our house last week, close to asking price, CASH buyer, who even wanted all of our furniture, everything. The agent working with him had been looking with the guy for three month, to find the perfect house. We were to close 6/3, and had planned to move our 5th wheel to a park near here, this Sat. Guess what? (you know what's coming, don't you?). The guy went back home, and now no one can reach him!! So, regardless of our bad news, I can share your good news, in the hope that our day will come, too. One step closer! Good for you.

Richard

Hey Terry and Jo - So very pleased for you!  Will keep my fingers crossed that this is IT!

We are currently static also, on a job that may go for as long as two years.  smile  Lovely area, so we're fine with that.

Take care!

Betty

Congratulations Terry and Jo, I am so happy for you. We, too, have been static full timing for about 6 weeks now but the house is sold and we close on the 25th. The wheels will roll. It sure feels good to be getting closer and closer doesn't it.
