Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
The other night our LP detector suddenly went crazy and woke us at around 4 AM for no reason that I could determine. After 3 rounds of muting and going back to bed just long enough to get back to sleep, I disconnected it. Following morning I read the manual (I only read manuals if I have to) which informed me that there are a large number of common household items that can set the alarm off including many you might expect (butane, kerosene) and many you would not expect (like perfumes, hair spray and aerosol propellants among others). Given the age of the unit (8 years) I expect it is time to replace it, but I do not want a unit that will be sounding off all the time when there is no LP leak. My unit was a CCI Controls Model 7770, but they are out of business. Any information or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
No recommendation for you, but you did well for 8 years. My original detector (Safe-T-Alert model?) lasted a year. On my second one which is now 3 years old. Tech who replaced my first one said they normally only last about 3 years. My first one went like yours till I finally pulled the fuse.

Thanks, that's more information than I had. Hope it is just age-related and not characteristic of these things in general. Better safe than sorry, so I will get a new one. Looks like will have to take whatever the dealer has in stock since I currently have no mailing address for mail order.
You might be surprised to find that you likely do have a mailing address if you need one. First, you may be able to receive a package at the campground you are staying at. This is where we receive all of the mail from our mail forwarding service. Second, if you have a UPS Store (or Kinkos/FedEx) nearby, they will accept a package for you for a $5 fee (some charge $5 a day so plan accordingly). Call the store first to verify that they will receive the package and that you have the correct mailing address before making your order. As long as the company will ship to an address other than the address on your CC then you will have you really have many options.
