Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Planning travel to two daughters this summer.I live in Nevada, and they live in the Tampa Fla(Palm Harbor) & Washington DC areas. Took trip to DC last summer, left in June to meet daughter who was returning from overseas,ie commitment travel-we had to be there to help her move into her new home,(on 7/4 weekend,no less). This year we have no time constraints, but are thinking to go to Fla first, then up to DC area. Last yr. we took I-40, to I-81, then off 81, into the metro DC area. Except for rotten roads in AZ,and OK especially, the trip was ok.
The last driving trip to Florida was via car. This time we'll be towing a 35 ft 5er with our truck. I seem to recall taking I-40 to Amarillo, then taking 287/87further into Texas. I seem to recall that being well maintained, but don't recall after that. I can see from maps that I need to connect to I-10 eventually to Tallahassee, and that there are several ways to do so, I just was wondering if any of you have ant recent preferences/experience to either of these destinations? Just trying to find the "best" routes, based on experience.

If it were me (and it is not!) I would take the route directly from NV to the Phoenix area and then onto I-10 and all the way to FL. The roads are about as good as they get (boring, but good). You can save yourself about 29 miles if you just take I-40W all the way to Memphis, cut down US78 to Birmingham, pick up I-20 to Atlanta and then I-75 into FL. Sometimes shorter is not faster. I-10 roads are excellent except in LA (that's not Los Angeles) and it will get you there safe and sound. The toss-up route would be I-40E to OK City, OK, I-35S to the Dallas area, I-20 to Shreveport, and then I-49 down to I-10 and East.
With all of the bad weather this year, lots of freezing and flooding, I bet there will be problems on most roads.
Anytime we've travelled across country it seems like we hit one or two states where they seem to have torn up every main road. I have a ton of pictures of the back of the various Pilot cars we have followed for miles and miles.
