Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Spent the last few days working on our new Mobile Suites and wanted to keep very cool. Outside temp was in the 80's so not very hot. I set the thermostat down to 70* but could only get the temp down to 77*. Not much water running off of the roof. What direction do I go from here. The selling dealer is 190 miles away and I would not take it back to them. It is on a lot in a park and not very easy to take it somewhere. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Was the unit cycling or running continuously? Very often the thermostats read way off. Where were you reading 77? The air conditioner reads it at the ceiling.
A lot more information is required before we could offer meaningful suggestions. Is there only the one unit on the 5er? Were you opening and closing the door often? As Fred asks, was the unit cycling? Have you cleaned/checked the air filter? Can you hear the compressor kick on after the fan starts? Have you opened the "quick cool" louvers on the unit? (It takes the cooled air out of the ducting and discharges directly into the room) If you don't want to take it to the dealer, call a mobile RV Tech to come check it out. Call the air conditioner manufacturer to get guidance on checking it out.

Have an 07 Suite with the same A/C set up. I have found that the water off the roof really varies with part of the country we are in. Sometimes we get a constant stream but lots of times..not a drop. AS far as cooling, at 80 you should get it down to low 70s......on ours if the ambient gets above 80 and its sunny the A/C will struggle. Your best bet is an A/C guy at a repair shop or Dometic. DRV will just get you to call Dometic...(it's a component...not their problem) Good luck.
Ours has a 15K & a 13.5K. Dometic will come to your site but not pay the service call (just parts and labor the first year)

Yes you are right on. Dometic does not pay for service calls. I just wanted to get the 15K & 13.5K working correctly before it gets hot. I have turned down the temp to 70* w/ fans on High (both) and can get it to 77* @ 2PM and will drop later in the day. My Carrier in our Montana could get down to meat locker temp. DW hated it when I would turn it down. Should not be this hard to get things right.
That happened to us in Florida in April.....DH was away and I was in a hot RV with the air blowing but no cooling....checked the breaker box, and the fuses, ...flipped the switch....still no cool air coming....called a mobil RV guy....came out and within 30 seconds he had it cooling.....what he had to do was flip EVERY switch in the breaker....he told me that sometimes they are labeled wrong....so lesson learned. Flip all switcches off then on again.....
Luckily his service call was only $30 and I think he felt bad to be done so quickly....so he answered my other questions on things we were wondering about....and gave me a lesson on my Fantastic Fan and how the furnace worked....(we had camped in winter in 30 something degrees and could not get the furnace to come on....thought the thermostat on the wall was for the furnace....NO....it was for the fantastic fan....my furnance runs from the remote of the A/C!! I know you all are probably laughing....but we bought this 5er which came with NO books on anything!!! I'm sure the walkthough person at the dealer explained it all....but I was too caught up in the emotion of the purchase to remember!! :)
A little pocket thermometer, that can be purchased at places like WalMart, can tell you volumes. You would hope to see a 20 to 25 degree temp diff between the air entering the rig and the air returning to the a/c unit. If the supply air is in the area of 60 degrees, I would say the unit is doing it's best.
