Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hot water tank pressure valve

Noticed some dripping on the outside of the rig and upon investigation found a small amount of dripping water coming from the pressure valve off the hot water tank. It has been warmer than it has been in a while-could that have something to do with it (we haven't noticed it before)? If no, is this a big deal? There is some rust on the pipes, so replacing them would probably be a good idea, just wondered what might be happening.

Happens to me sometimes. The tank works best with a small air pocket at the top of tank. I don't know what causes it, but the air pocket will disappear and the pressure valve will drip. Makes a great excuse to flush the tank. If it still leaks after you flush the tank then you can replace the pressure valve, costs about $15 for a new one.

Nope, not a big deal.  This happens when the pressure in the tank reaches the pop-off set point.  Sometimes this may happen more if you have lost your “air balloon” in the top of tank.  That is the top of the tank has filled all the way up with water and the air has totally been evacuated.  To replenish the air, just drain the tank and fill it. Nope, not a big deal and is normal.  Happens all the time.

If you drain your tank and refill it and the drips continue, then the valve may be leaking slowly allowing the air pocket to seep out. If it continues after the refill, it is a good idea to replace the valve. If you do be sure to use an anti-seize material on the threads.
