What a precious post....and how awesome that you have this way to bond with your grandson. We are going in March for 1 month to camp where 2 of our grandkids are in Florida (parents are travel nurses) and we're excited to spend some quality and quanity time with them!

Melanie/Janni I try to spend time with all 6 og my grandkids camping or hiking. The ages range from 14 to 5 and they all seam to love spending time outdoors. I get emails and text messages wanting to know when and where we will be going next. They are a hoot.

Hey, Dan.

You know that it is one of the greatest things to take kids out into the woods. Way back in the '70's, we took our first week long vacation to Colorado with our kids and camped in Purgatoire River Campground. Believe me, that place is out of the way. All week long, I heard, "Dad, I'm bored." So, we would go hiking or something.

The next year, with me being in very high anticipation to get back to the mountains, I worried that the kids wouldn't want to go back. They came up to me about a month before we were to go and asked, "Dad, are we going to the mountains on vacation again?"

I looked at Jo first and with a little bit of trepidation, I answered, "Yes." Imagine my delight when they were excited and happy about going back. To this day, my youngest son, aged 38, still likes to go camping with Mom and Dad.

It's a great life, Dan. May it continue for you for many years.

That is a great story about being able to bond with your kids. We tent camped when our girls were young and I think that is why G-ma was so reluctant to try the RV thing (she is now starting to plan trips). My oldest daughter who now lives near Chicago loves to come to Texas and bring the kids so we can go hiking, she even made a commit to her husband, when he ask what he was going to do because he knew nothing about outdoors type stuff, on one of their trips down her reply "I don't care this is the way I was raised and I will have a ball with my dad". We all went hicking at one of the state parks close to the house and now the kids want to come back so we can do it again.

Yeaw Buddy, my grandson and I used to take off and go travling around together. Then he got older, discovered girls and out grew Paw Paw. smile

I remember when my then 12 year old son asked his grandfather if he wanted to go down to the local beach and girl watch. He was saying there were even "older girls" too. When his grandfather asked him how old, he excitedly replied "13". We still laugh about that today.
