One Very Sad Camper

Today was one of the worst days of our lives.  We had to put our beloved Foxy to sleep.  She was 15 years old.....up until this past summer she had a very happy and active life.  She had gone downhill rapidly in the past month.  She had stopped enjoying her walks, often stopping and not wanting to go any further.  She used to walk our legs off.....she loved going out and visiting with all the "fur people" in the campgrounds we visited.  We knew it was time when she developed an abscess and was in noticable pain.  Our trip to the Vet this afternoon confirmed what we knew in our hearts.  It was time to let her go.......
As I write this tears are streaming down my face.....I know I have gone thru a box of tissues, but nothing makes me feel any better.  Foxy was one of those dogs that loved life....and anybody that cared to come and visit her.  She had that calming sense about her.  More than once, she stopped fears of children who were afraid of dogs.  She was quite the gentle spirit.  She was loyal, loving and most of all the best dog on earth.  She has spoiled us.....we know that there will never be another Foxy.
I know we will grieve and move on.....but right now, our hearts are broken.....
Thanks for listening........

We share your grief, Mary, having last April/May lost our two beloved fur boys.  We are thinking of you and know for a fact that the reason dogs do not live as long as humans is it takes more than one dog to teach us everything we need to know about loving others.

You are very right, there will never be another Foxy, but Foxy will approve of the next teacher of love for you, and pick up where Foxy left off.

Just know Foxy will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge as filled with life as she were a pup!

So sorry to hear about Foxy. Seems like 15 years must be the tipping point. We just went through the same thing with Mikey last weekend. You have a lot of people here on RV Dreams who sympathize and know what you are going through. It will get better....

Howard and I are so sorry for your loss.  What an impact our pets have in our lives.  They are true givers!  We hope the day when you can think of Foxy without tears and only smiles comes soon.

We are very sorry for your loss.  We know how difficult it is and will be..

Time will ease the pain and the memories will be a great joy.  We lost one at 18 and one at 16 and we still miss them but enjoy the memories we made together.

So sorry to hear about your loss.  Your post brought tears to my eyes too as I remembered the times I have lost those wonderful 4 legged members of my family.  Their personalities and love stay with us forever.  I'm thinking of you in your grief.

So sorry for your loss. We just went thru the same experience, we were devastated. And are still heartbroken. Never had such a loss, we had to let our Sweet "Montana" go to the Rainbow bridge. I'm hoping and praying I will be with my Montana at some time in the future. Good Luck...........

So sad to hear about your loss. Yeah, they really are family. The kind that has nothing but acceptance for who we are and unconditional in their in their love.

Our Sunny (That's her in our avatar) is 9 1/2 now and 8 is old for a Rotty. The only part of our near future that we don't look forward to is having to deal eventually with canine lifespan. Our travel ramp for the truck is now at the foot of our bed for her. Good thing its a California king.

We know you will never forget but will also find a happier day soon.

My deepest, deepest sympathy to you.  I just put my Sugar down in December and still cry when I think about her not being there to greet me at the door when I get home.  It is heartbreaking.

Joan and I are so sorry to hear about Foxy. We've lost several dogs, fortunately all to old age, and it can hurt just like when a relative dies. It sounds like she had a great life though and she was lucky to have you folks as her humans. Hopefully you'll find another dog that will give you the same kind of companionship and friendship.

I am so very sorry for your loss. We had to put two beloved fur babies down in the last three years; Muttley first, then Harley just last July. I still miss them both and cry when I think of them. Our dogies are so very special to us, and love us in such an extraordinary, unconditional way. My deepest sympathy to you.

Thank You.....Thank You.....Thank You.
I knew I could post our loss on here and know that someone would know exactly how we are feeling.  Foxy was so much a part of our lives.  I know we have to go on, but it just hurts so much.  Everywhere we look there is something that reminds us of her.  We know that we must go on....and sooo
many have told us our hearts will mend.  It is like loosing a family member.  We are so blessed to have so many friends that understand and send their condolences.  None of your words have fallen on deaf ears.  Right now we just need to mourn our loss and remember all of our wonderful adventures that we took together.  Yes, she was a great dog, and for 15 wonderful years she filled our lives with love.
Maybe one day we will get another dog.....but.... well, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
Thank you all again.....We love each and everyone of you.  We are truely blessed to have so many loving and caring friends......and we do consider each of your our friends.
Hopefully we will catch up with you in our travels.
May God Bless each of you

While I hope to not seem insensitive here, I do understand the losing of a beloved pet.  And, I do extend my condolences to those that have lost loving pets.  Both of our dogs are getting up in age themselves, so I may get to say goodbye to ours as well.

However, I would like everyone to consider a new member in the "Introduce Yourself" area.  Her name online is Scottiegirl and she has apparently lost her husband in the past and is beginning a life of fulltiming.  So far, I've been the only one to post on her introduction.  If everyone that has responded to this thread would also respond to her posting, she would have a much better reception than she has gotten.

Thanks, All.  I really don't mean to be negative with this.

Terry

I too would like to express my condolences. When you lose a beloved pet it isn't 'like' losing a family member, it IS losing a family member.

Dec. was a sad month for me. I have cats, and lost the two oldest that month. A 15 year old died unexpectedly overnight on Dec. 11, and on of all days Christmas Eve Day I had to have a 16 year old put down... his kidneys were failing, and despite medication and a special diet, he was going downhill fast.

As hard as it is, when the time comes it's the most loving thing you can do for a faithful companion of many years.
In their own way, cats give as much unconditional love as dogs.

I'm at the point now in my life where my biggest worry is what to do about the remaining cats. They are young enough that they will almost certainly outlive me, and I don't want them to have to be put down just because I'm gone. On the other hand, I can't bear the thought of placing them in new homes now... it would be like cutting off my arm.

God bless,
Tim

Robyn and Tim, I'm so sorry that you lost your kitties. You hit it right on the head that they ARE family. They are the children that stay children, and they depend on their people for everything. They never become jaded; every day is fresh and new and an adventure for them.  They enjoy what they enjoy unabashedly, and they love without limits.  We could learn a few things from them.  I'm sorry for your loss.

I was reading an article about human history recently and it put out a theory that humans become so successful (as a species) when we started living with dogs.  Together we became a "super-predator"  - a combined species of sorts.   That struck a chord with me.  (Although I am not much of a predator smile.gif  It explained why a different species is part of our families, and why we need them and love them.  Thousands of years of family.  I am sorry for your loss.
