Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

New to Forum, a "Thank You"

Hello everyone.  I'm rather new posting to this forum, but have enjoyed the many helpful posts as I evolved into full time RVing from part-time while Bill was alive. Now he has passed, I sold the house, down-sized to a Class C RV, took the three Scotties and decided to go find things to write about, as I have written about my Scotties and life in an RV.  Reading Dream Forum has been so helpful in getting "centered" again, getting back to living, writing, traveling, because some of you have been so open and sharing with your own losses/griefs, happiness/joys.  You probably didn't even know how much, especially finding the courage to give up "stuff" sometimes dear "stuff" full of memories. Then finding how light life becomes in some sense of the word.
I have chosen to stay in state parks where there's short stays, and friendly folks and all the critters and nature one can stand. aww Florida! Love it.  Home state, and now the focus of my  journal writings.
See you all on the forum and maybe down the road.  Happy trails.
ScottieGirl

Losing a loved one is never an easy process to get through.  Fortunately, we can find others that we love to help us cope with nearly every negative aspect of a new life without that lost loved one.  I'm glad that you have found some comfort from the RV Dreams forum participants.

Welcome to the forum and the family of friendly, helpful and caring folks that make up that family.  Feel free to post both questions and comments, as we all tend to learn from each other's comments and queries.

I can understand the love of the state park sites.  We used to spend a lot of our vacations in a secluded National Forest campground in Colorado.  There is a rejuvenating that comes from spending time with nature.

Terry

Welcome ScottieGirl.

First my husband and I would like to send our condolences on the loss of your husband.  You are actually someone to look up to.  I don't know if I could go on being a fulltime RV'er without my husband.  I know I would have to downsize the rig....we currently have a 40ft 5th wheel.  I would go the route you took and go with a class C or a smaller 5th wheel.  I too am grieving.  We lost our beloved dog, Foxy.  She was 15 years old and had lost the quality of life.  I know you love those 3 scotties, and they provide great company.
We love the state parks also.....when we fit into them!!  You mentioned you where in Florida.  We are currently in the Tampa/St Petersburg area.  If you want to, send me a private message and maybe we can get together.  We have been fulltiming now for almost 6 years.  Time has certainly flown by.
Welcome to the Dreamer's forum......everyone here is Awesome!!
Have you thought about going to the Dreamer's gathering this April??  We are still trying to figure out if we can get it into the our plans.
Again.....Welcome....Best of luck in your travels

Welcome ScottieGirl to RV-Dreams. I have found great advice and virtual friends here. I am so sorry for your loss and I too am impressed with your determination to go out on the road alone. You are amazing!
You will not be alone hanging out here and since our daughter and her family are in Florida right now, we are heading that way in about 7 weeks to spend a month! They are loving living and working there right now!

Melanie

Welcome to the forum ScottieGirl. Condolences on the loss of your husband. Are your writings published on the web? A lot of us here enjoy reading others blogs so we can keep up with each other as we travel around the country.

Scottiegirl,

I sned my sincere condolences on your loss, and welcome to the forum.

This is a great bunch of people here.

I lost my wife a year and a half ago. She passed away at age 52, far too young, and I miss her dearly. That was the end of our RV dreams. She had been hospitalized for 13 months, and it took its toll on my health so there was no way it was going to happen in any case. I admire your courage and determination.

You'll find, as I'm sure you already have, a lot of supportive folks here. This is the only RV forum I still follow, because it's the only one I've found where people who are otherwise perfect strangers really seem to care about each other. And it's kind of funny how these perfect strangers seem to run into each other on the road and become friends, strangers no more.

Best of luck, and I hope you do run into a lot of these folks down the road. They will enrich your life.

God bless,

Tim

Welcome Scottie Girl.  I don't post often but I read just about every post.  The people here are wonderful and you never have to be afraid to ask ANY question.  You will definitely get an honest answer.  Consider going to one of the rallies if you can so you can meet some of these amazing people.  I am planning on going to the one in PA in the fall.

My condolences on the loss of your husband.

My condolences on the loss of your husband.  I can't even imagine going through life without mine.  I admire your courage and fortitude.  And welcome to RV Dreams!  I'm convinced this is the nicest group of folks you'll ever find.  May you and your Scotties be blessed and safe in your travels!

First, thank you for the very kind message.  I am so sorry to hear about your little Foxy passing.  Someone once said that "grief is the price we pay for love." And yet, there is always another little creature somewhere that would love to tell you "you can love me!"  One's heart expands I believe, and I hope when I get to "rainbow bridge" mythical, yet some idea of Heaven, I just hope my arms will stretch far enough to hold all the wonderful dogs I've had throughout my life. The trick is to move the sorrow out, so that good memories can remain.  Again, it is hard to find really comforting words, only know others have been at this point, possibly many times.  Gosh, I've got to learn to write shorter notes, lest I bore folks to sleep!  Have you been to Lake Louisa just out of Clermont?  It's a state park and really nice. I would PM you, but I don't know how!  Very new to the forum and all the bells and whistles.  If you plan on staying at Lazy Days RV Park, the old name was Rally Park, let me know.  I like it there, expensive, but food, laundry, free newspaper and lots of fellow RVers are usually there.
Thanks again for the message.

Thanks to you and everyone for the messages.  How kind to take a moment to inspire and communicate positive thoughts.  I had joined the Escapees at one point about a year ago, and have been on their forum maybe once.  I really lurked about to see what was going on in the forums, but found this one to be so positive and hopeful.  People haven't even sold their houses or even retired yet and they're planning that wildly joyful transition to freedom.  I love it!  It's scary if you're by yourself sometimes, and I probably don't even know the half of it yet, but heck, why not go and see new things or make your dreams come to fruition. So far freedom to move about has become great fun, and exhausting. blankstarebiggrin
Thanks again.

LOL! Thank you, I would love to meet some of the folks and go to a rally. I'm a Florida native, read: flat land! Pennsylvania seems a long way away, and having driven in Tennessee and NC and points in between...well, my fingernails are still in the steering wheel cover I'm sure.  As time goes by, I think I will venture a bit farther into America and see some of the wonderful West and maybe "up nawth" where so many brave RVers go through mountain areas.  I'm not brave yet.
It just takes a bit of time.
Hope to meet everyone eventually...if not, then we meet here in the Dream Forum.  Maybe they'll have a rally in Florida.  St. Augustine is a lovely area, and Ocala, Clermont area and many others.
Take care.

Tim, I send my heartfelt condolences to you for your loss. You may not be in an RV right now, but it looks like your heart still is!  When I posted, I didn't realize how it might touch others, and I hope it didn't make anyone terribly sad, but I did realize after reading the posts, that we share and strengthen each other, and that is important.
Thank you!

Thank you!  I wish I knew how to blog.  I'll have to find out how to do it.  Sounds interesting.  I'll have to read some others' blogs and see what is put into one.
Thanks!

Hello Scottiegirl.
I too would like to extend my condolences.

I can certainly relate to "What is and how do I blog?.  I just stated blogging last July.  After reading other blogs linked through this forum, I chose one that I liked the look of it and just started one.  There was a link for starting your own.
I'm sure that your scotties keep you company.  I had two that I loved dearly, but had to let them go, Haggis at 13, and most recently, Nessie at 19.  After a couple of years (actually last February) I rescued Angel from the SPCA and she is now the love of my life.

I hope to see you blogging soon.  Good Luck and Safe Travels!

I just started a blog.  There were so many things about it that made me nervous, "why would anyone want to read what I have to say?  How personal should I be?  How often do I have to write on it?"  So what I did was start it, but not tell anyone about it yet.  Kind of goofy, and I intend to eventually tell my family, friends, this forum, etc about it and give out the address, but this way I am starting without all the self-conciousness.

Hi, Terry and Jo.  In an effort to reply to everyone, I sure hit the wrong keys or something, because all of them ended up in in a row in the middle of all this texting. And they think I could BLOG?!?  smile That could be disastrous. :)
I'm quite inspired by all of the great people who have responded, and would enjoy starting a blog and will investigate doing so.
Again, I apologize for that great chain of responses to everyone as no one probably figured out who I was responding to, but just pick one. It is all heartfelt and happy to be in such great company.
I do hope to meet some or all of you at a Florida rally or just anywhere.  If any of you spot a 2010 Born Free and a person being dragged about by a couple of Scotties and a large chocolate poodle (new pup) just come say hello.
Well, the motor is on and I'm rolling! See you down the road...or is that up the road?

Hi Scottie Girl,

I was glad to see that you're single (sorry for your loss <3) and traveling full time with your dogs.  I am just beginning my new adventure with a grand plan of living full time in an RV with my 4 greyhounds.  I make paper mache dog sculptures and I will be traveling across country to different rescue fundraising events. I will be selling my sculptures, blogging about the rescues and doing video interviews, taking photos and covering the events.

I see you are in a Class C. I'm wondering if I should go with a Class C or get a camper that I would tow behind an SUV. Do you any thoughts on either of these options? Any advice on living in an RV full time with your dogs or just in general would be greatly appreciated. Do you have a blog or facebook page I could follow?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Terri

Terri,

Perhaps you missed my previous post.  Scottiegirl hasn't been logged into the forums in almost two years.  It is likely that she won't see your comment and answer you.

Tmalloy21, many people travel with dogs, cats and other pets. The couple that have blog Great Escape from NJ have great stories to tell and also help a dog rescue organization. I also read Travels with Emma and several others. Lots of info and nice people on this forum and other forums and blogs. Nice to hear about your plans.

Yes, I did miss the previous post about Scottiegirl not posting in almost two years. Once I saw it I did create a new post in the Introduction section.

Also, thank you for the 2 great blog references, I will definitely check them out!

Have a great day! Terri
