Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Mark and Becky here, have been reading the posts for several weeks now and really enjoy reading about all your travels. When we got married 25 years ago, I had a Winnebago Chieftain that we took to Estes Park Co for our honeymoon. We have been camping ever since with the national parks being our favorite places to visit. In 1992 we purchase a new ford van and a pop-up camper. The van and camper have been coast to coast and every where in between and we are planning to take the van and camper to Chicago this summer for a family wedding. We are not sure about this years vacation plans other than I'm sure it will be where there is a campground. I would love to go full time and Becky says she would probably agree to it before me. I'm a pack rat and can't part with all my junk. As you can see once I buy something I don't get rid of it. The van is getting tired and I would like to upgrade to a class "c" with the intent to get a DP when retired.
This site is a gold mine of information about full timing. I have not found any other site that has so much information about budgeting for full timing. When I look at all the numbers I realize we could do it if we made the decision.
Hello from Pa. Best wishes in the process of freeing oneself from the stuff. We have started in earnest and I am finding the more we get rid of the better we feel. The real eye opener for us was when my in-laws had a public auction and all the treasures they saved for many years went for next to nothing. Things they held on to thinking they had value have very little; and the kids sure don't seem to want it. Best of all in the process. Ken and Bonnie
Welcome to the family of RV Dreams. As you probably already know, this is a site with a lot of helpful and friendly folks. Feel free to ask questions and make comments. With your experiences, I'm sure you can contribute quite a bit.
I don't know where you live, but we have relatives in Western Kansas and Jo was born in Elkhart, KS and was raised in Oklahoma about 3 miles from there.
Colorado is a favorite destination of ours as well.
Terry

Thanks Ken and Bonnie for the words of encouragement... Terry we live In Salina, both my wife and I were born here. I lived in Calif. for ten years and have been back to ks since 1978. Our early years of marriage were centered around the Chieftain. We started out living at an old farm house that needed a lot of work. At first we had no water to the house and relied on the Winnebago for bathroom and shower.
I don't know if we could part with the house but I do know we would like to spend more time in a warmer area. we love Ks. and this is a good central place for a home base if we decide to go full time. We have a few years to go before making any decision. Our oldest is married and living in KC, we have one in college and two still in school we all love to camp and full timing sounds exciting.
We've accumulated a lot of stories over the last 25 years and all the good ones center around camping.
Good to have you aboard. Sounds like you have a lot of camping experience so be sure to join in with your comments or questions.
Good luck with your plans.
Jim

Hey, Hello from Kansas.....Hello from Kansas!....We are currently living fulltime in our 5th wheel at Tuttle Creek State park. Just waiting until the end of our old lives and the start of our new life at the end of March.
This IS a great place for fulltimers and anyone thinking of fulltiming. We ran across Howard's and Linda's site about a year and a half ago when we were "just thinking" about it....All of these great people here helped make our decision VERY easy!
Hope to see you on the road in the future, but if you have any questions, don't be afraid to come visit..
Doris

It's neat to hear from a full timer that is so close to home. Yes I'm just a little jealous of you. Sounds like your about to spread your wings into full timing. What are your plans come March? what direction are you planning to go? And how hard is it to stay warm and keep the tanks from freezing in our sub-zero weather?
Mark, Yes, we are VERY excited about starting our travels in March...Heading to Florence AZ first. We will be working for a company that provides the software and equipment for ticketing at music festivals. We will be doing 7 festivals this year from April to October.
AZ, NE, KS (Country Stampede), WI, CO, NM and the 7th to be named later. We will have anywhere from one week to almost 2 months between festivals....so plenty of time to travel.
Not having any trouble staying warm and cozy. We run our electric fireplace all the time. We also have one little heater under the dining table (this is where i sit with my laptop), a small heater in the bathroom and one in the bedroom. The one in the bedroom hardly ever runs. We have a heated underbelly, so we run the on board propane heaters just enough to keep all our tanks unfrozen. My husband gets a llittle worried about the underbelly freezing, so we also have an electric heater down there on low. Also, we have a heated hose to the water so that doesn't freeze.
All in all, we are having a cozy winter.....but don't want to have to spend another one in this weather...looking forward to warmer climates next winter!!

Sounds like you have a full summer planned, hope all goes well for you. We have spent a lot of time at Milford but not Tuttle Creek. I have many friends who attend the festival there but from the stories and pictures it looks a little wild. I would like to attend if I thought there was some family friendly camping available. We sure enjoy our River Festival here in Salina. The small town music festivals I think are some of the best entertainment around, not to mention all the good food. If we go this year we will look you up.
Yes, be sure and look us up. Just ask at the office and they will find us for you.
There IS family friendly camping at the stampede. It is on the opposite end of the grounds from the craziness....called "Family Camping". Curfew is midnite, as opposed to 2 AM in the other campground. There are still some low key parties there, but all in all a much more layed back area.
Hope to see you on the road or just around.....
Doris
