Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I am looking for information on who you use or where you go to host your home page and blog. I am clueless on how this works but would like to get something set up. Oh and I would prefer a free service :) is that realistic?
Thanks to all!
Win the day Mike

I also use blogspot and am very happy with it. Easy to use, very popular and FREE!

I don't know if you have read a previous thread that I started about bloggers and a request. In it, I discussed with others about what was a good blog host. You might want to read through it. One of the poster even provided a link to a Blogger site that gives quite a bit of information.
However, it may not answer all your questions.
Good luck. I'm still considering starting one myself. Check out the previous thread at this link:
I think the simplest to use for novices is definitely Blogger (blogspot). With the addition of "pages", you can make it look and act more like a traditional website (basic) and still have your blog.
Right now I have ten blogs on blogger of which five are active, and one inactive using WordPress.

We are going to use a plan at http://hoop.la. We've used the company to host our forum for years and they're great to deal with...incredible tech support. Although the page you'll see focuses on the forum aspect, you can use only the modules you want and can have your main page be just a blog (with Twitter feed included if desired).
What we really like about it us the ability to post unlimited photos and videos (even on the free plan). It may be more powerful a program than some people want, but it gives a lot of options.
The home page does not currently support custom widgets, but that's coming soon.
I'm currently working on (and playing around with) our new site and manually importing old blog posts and forum stuff from our previous site, but this will show you some of the options available. http://marklindsay.hoop.la
Thanks to everyone! I appreciate all the helpful advice and comments. I guess I have more homework to do but that is fine it's winter and I have extra time.
Win the day! Mike

I started a "camping blog" a couple of years ago, but have become much more active in "expanding" it as well as reading many other RV blogs. So I made a blog post of what programs I use and how I go about creating posts when we're traveling/camping. You can read about what works well for me at: http://casitaescapes.blogspot.com/search/label/Start%20Your%20Own%20Blog . It's fun and entertaining once you get past the concern about putting your life out there on the internet. Hope this helps.

I rent a VPS (virtual private server) running Debian and use apache and ikiwiki for my blog. Not something I recomend for someone not familar with Linux. The entire blog is in a git repository, and a copy is on one of my home systems. So I don't have to worry about a "free" site discontinuing the service, and if my VPS server goes out of business I can move to another server pretty easily.
Blogger is very easy to learn and use. I've been really happy with it! We're not on the road yet -- still waiting for the house to sell -- but I try to post some of our more interesting days at home, as well as all of our RV travels.
