Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I wanted to hear from the motor cycle riders on how they bring thier motorcycles with them. Are they using Toy Haulers, trailers, modified lifts or what ever. I am not fulltiming yet but we have narrowed down our rig possabilities to a Dodge 3500 SRW Diesel, 32ft Montana 5er. So that would pretty much mean putting a hitch on the back of the 5er with the motorcycle on a trailer. I have seen in the magazines some sort of trailer that bolts onto the 5er with a single pivot wheel. Anyone using one of those?

We also like to travel with toys. There are several makers of swivel wheel trailers, most are expensive. The downside for these rigs are the bike is always out in the weather and some states supposedly don't allow them. From what I have read the eastern and western coast states are the ones to prohibit them. I will be looking at a toyhauler in a few years for my full timing rig. We have two atv's and four bicycles to carry. Some toyhaulers have a side entrance to hold one motorcycle and you don't lose as much living space. I also think the toys are safer when they are not seen. For now I have a custom build rear bumper on my fifthwheel. I have pulled a small boat. We also pulled a 14' utility trailer with 2 atv's to Arkansas for Thanksgiving. I was 63'9" long. The utility trailer is tandom axle with brakes. The only problem is forward is the only direction to go.
I think you'll find just about any combination of options out there are being used by someone. LOL!
We have a 41' toy hauler (check our blog for more photos) with a 10' garage for our two motorcycles. We pull with a medium duty Freightliner. We have a Harley trike and a Sportster.
Works well for us but of course the bigger trucks have their draw backs as far as manuverability once you arrive at your destination.
We are fulltime but stuck in one place for awhile until retirement. Our plan once we start traveling is for Rudee to drive a "chase" vehicle while I drive the rig.

We have a hitch on the rear of the 5th wheel so we can eventually purchase a swivel wheel type trailer or a Idaho Tote. I am still concerned about tounge weight. The wheels are at the back of the trailer and the bike would be loaded between the wheels and the hitch, producing more tounge weight. So for now my wife Maxine rides the Goldwing (very experianced) and I pull the rig.
This works well since we do not usually go over 200 miles a week or so. It also is nice to be able to park the rig and then use the bike to scout the campground out before we take the rig into it.
We have the same situation, going the 5er route that is. Haven't found a toy hauler we like so we are considering the idaho tote. But with everything there are draw backs and the tote is expensive. I like the way it operates. The link below takes you to their site. They have a video of the tote in action.
I already own a 6X12 enclosed trailer that would work. Then there is the issue of length and when you are at the campground where to put the trailer. The DW has no interest in driving the motorcycle as a tag along or driving the truck and camper combo through mountainous roads or anything with a curve in it.

Had our trailer behind the 22ft B+ last year and one time had to unhook and set to the side...otherwise have always just did pull through spots and leave it behind mh. Now with the 41' we have been to half a dozen parks and all spots have been long enough for both. Losing the trailer is our biggest deal breaker at this time. Really like having it along but would like to travel together too.
