Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Most people will probably tell you that it's a waste of storage space but I love my dishwasher! I have one of the drawer units. I don't need the space and find it very handy to have...it's my home smile

Bill,

Jo and I considered a dishwasher, especially since we will be full-timing in our Mobile Suites.  However, with the constraints of storage and trying to eliminate unnecessary weight, we elected to do without one.

In addition to the storage and weight, one would have to winterize the dishwasher if one isn't full-timing or staying in the south.  Also, the ones we saw weren't very big anyway.

Considering that the discharge will also go to the grey water tank, unless one makes sure to ALWAYS wipe off the dishes and pans before putting them in the dishwasher, one could end up with food particles building up within the grey tank.  Unlike the black tank, most grey tanks don't have a back flush system.  If a person has to "wash the dishes" before putting them in the dishwasher, why bother?

If it were going to be more than the two of us most of the time, it might have been a consideration to get one.  Also, with the Mobile Suites anyway, if one elects to get the dishwasher, one can't also get the regular oven.  Since Jo likes having an oven, that also kind of decided for us.

Terry

When you are leading a busy life with work, etc. , having a dishwasher is wonderful. Just keep filling it till it's full and then run it.

Living on the road with just the 2 of us though, it seems a waste of space. We only have a setting for 4, and it's easy enough to do the dishes by hand. There's not much to run off to anyway.

That said however, what ever floats your boat. There are plenty of people with dishwashers.

Go to Jack Mayer's website   http://jackdanmayer.com/
and navigate to the 'New Horizons RV' page(s) to see his comments about it... His comments are under the 'customizations' link and the photos of the finished interior shows the dishwasher and identifies the maker. They had a Fischer/Paykel drawer dishwasher installed as an option, and it only uses 1.9 gallons of water per load according to Jack. He also says they used more than that when washing by hand because he measured it.

They didn't need an oven because of the convection/microwave that they chose.

Hope this helps.... some people love 'em, others hate 'em.

We have a dishwasher and love it but sometimes we cuss at it but still love it. Does that make sense? We use Paper plated but regular silverware and pots and pans to cook with of course. We have a Nu Wave oven as well as convection oven in microwave so don't need another oven taking up space that we feel is better used with the dishwasher. The D/W itself doesn't weigh much maybe 20 pounds total as it is mostly hollow space when empty. As far as water usage we have noticed at times with low water pressure it seems to use a lot but maybe it is just our imagination. We have never had a problem with the gray tank becoming contaminated you probably wash more food down the sink than the dishwasher does. The biggest secret to keeping your holding tanks clean is to use lots of water in both the black and the gray tanks. We have also found that use of Quick & bright in both tanks after each dump keeps the gauges working and the bottoms clean also the smells to a minimum which none of the supposedly oder removers could begin to keep under control. Lots of water means more frequent dumps of course and more trips to the fresh water station if not hooked up to it at your spot. We find on average that we need to dump our tanks about every 4th day and it is mostly the grey tank that fills up first due to showers and kitchen use. Back to the need of a dishwasher, If you have anyone with a compromised immune system it is nearly an absolute must have. If you don't have one and have room for one it is worth the bucks in our opinion to have it installed. Then when you are done with dinner and you clean off the stove and clear out the sink and put all the silverware, plates and pots and pans in the D/W and you can relax and watch TV or hit the trail to do some early evening exploring around camp while the dishes are being done.
