Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I recently started using my RV oven, and it turns out it runs really, really hot. I bought an oven thermometer after the first time I used it, and it's heating up to 450 degrees, no matter where I set the dial.
Per suggestions, I did go out and buy a pizza stone for the bottom but because of the high heat, I've basically stopped using the oven until I can replace some parts (I'm in the process of doing that).
This is my question: I'm cooking this afternoon and I really could use a broiler. If I turn the oven on, can I stick something in the bottom compartment of the oven under the open flame, to use it as a broiler? Inquiring minds want to know
Thanks in advance,
Roberta in Half Moon Bay, CA

There's some good advice in what the others have said. However, there seem to be two types of ovens out there. Our oven is mostly worthless but it does have a rather large space between the flame head and the bottom of the oven of about 3 inches. There's also a broil setting on the temperature dial. So we do toast in the broiler. Haven't tried other items though. The oven space above the burner element is only 6 inches. Most folks that "like" their oven seem to have 9 inches with a much smaller space below the burner element. With our 6 inches, we just burn everything in the center and have it raw around the edge. And that pizza stone.... broke into 3 pieces the first time we used it because of the extreme heating difference center to edge of the oven.

Sounds like your thermostat is broken. I'd replace it as soon as possible!
There is a definite safety hazard there.

Roberta What brand of oven do you have in your rv? Our old prowler TT and are 2004 colorado fifth wheel have atwood range /ovens. they both came with broiler pans and worked well for browning toast and broiling meat if we did not want to start the grill or the the weather was nasty. In our ovens there is a space in the bottom of the oven under the gas burner for the broiler pan. If you can repair the oven control and you have this space under the burner you can order broiler pans on the internet. Tom & Cheryl
Thanks so much everyone. I have a Magic Chef. I need to take some measurements so you know exactly what I'm talking about. : )
