Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We're hoping to spend a long weekend in the New Orleans area later this month. Does anyone have any rv park recommendations near by? After that we'll be traveling up toward Okla. City and will be looking for an overnight stop in Texas or western LA. Thanks for your help!

The only park we stayed at was north of New Orleans but nice to ride into town from...but I think it might be a membership park (we belong to Coast 2 Coast). It's Abita Springs Campground and it's in Abita Springs (where the micro-brew is...great stop if you enjoy beer).
Hope you can take time to visit the D-Day Museum in New Orleans....I'm not a history buff (hubby is) and I enjoyed it immensely. We spent about 4-5 hours and got through maybe half of it. Emotionally draining! We plan to go back.
We stayed in a State Park that we really enjoyed.....Bayou Segnette State Park (504.736/7140). Only about a 10 minute easy drive from downtown or you can take the ferry. HUGE sites....with the "IT" factor. Driving was so easy we drove. Rate of $18/nite PLUS you get a pass for each of you to any state park. We used ours to tour the Old Oaks Plantation free (normal cost $15 each). We will definitely use this park in the future if touring N.O.

Thanks for your suggestions! We've actually been considering the Bayou Segnette State Park so it was nice to see another good review of it. The Abita Springs area looks nice too but probably a little too far out of town for this trip. Maybe next time!

I live in Abita Springs, so I second the Abita Springs CG. BTW you will love the Abita Brewery. My DW is the artist that makes the beautiful Jewelry and other items for the gift shop. The tour is free and includes lots of yummy free beer!
I also recommend the Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville, LA.

BTW I drive to New Orleans almost every day. It's about 45 minutes away. Maybe 1 hr to the heart of the french quarter. You get to drive across the worlds longest twin bridge, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.

Here is the link to the RV Park Reviews listings for New Orleans. This is a great site for seeing what lots of people think of particular campgrounds in any area of the country.
We have just stayed at Bayou Segnette and while the sites are nice (no sewer) we were carried away by mosquitoes. Also we could not get proper Verizon phone signal nor WiFi. They do have free washers and dryers in their laundries, but unfortunately others have not taken care of them. We put the washing in, it went through the mechanics of all the cycles but did not rinse the soap out of the clothing nor did it spin dry, it a real shame that the equipment has been abused they probably would do better by charging and using the money to repair the machines. ALso at the moment they are working on the levy walls right at the entrance, so if you are there during the day you will be subjected to the boom boom of the piling machinery.
As we have a blog it was very important for us to have WiFi - and for this reason and this reason only I would not return to the park.
Here are some parks that we've heard good things about. I hope you'll let us know how your stay goes. No matter which park you end up at.
Pontchartrain Landing - has a shuttle that runs from the park to the French Quarter 3 times a day. Located next to a park (could be scenic?). French Quarter RV Park - Walking distance from the French Quarter. But $69.00 per night.
"The park itself is newer, well maintained and the staff friendly. The Wi-Fi worked great the entire time we were there. The courtyard is very pretty and relaxing - providing fitness room, pool, hot tub, laundry and private bath suites. The spots all provided ample room, we didn't feel crowded at all."
I realize it's been several months since I originally posted this, but thought I might update. We ended up staying at the Pontchartrain Landing RV Park and would recommend it for a stay in New Orleans. They provide a shuttle to the French Quarter for a small charge. This worked well for us as we didn't bring our motorcycle or tow vehicle. Sites were nice but might be a little tight for some bigger rigs. Owners and staff very helpful. Nice bar, pool (tho it was closed when we were there) and store. We had no trouble finding the park with our GPS but you might think you're headed to an industrial park. We enjoyed our stay here. Thank you to everyone for your recommendations though!

Ummmmm.....let's see.....I guess I should clarify. We are heading to Texas. No real destination in mind. After that we are going to New Orleans. Destination to include the French Quarter, street car, jambalaya, jazz music, and Bourbon Street. Last time I was there it was an experience. (know it is in Louisiana)
We, too, are headed to New Orleans this spring. We're looking seriously at Fountainbleu State Park. Our son lives in NO so he will be driving us. Plan to be there around March 23rd or 24th until about March 29th or 30th. Be leaving before the rates go up.
Afterall isn't NO the direct route from Tuscaloosa, AL to Des Moines, IA? (Will be to cold yet to start working our way north). Plan to go go up the Mississippi.

Depending on where you are going in TX, give a shout. Might be able to help with ideas or a place to park for a day or two. PM me. Sorry for the smarty response, I just couldn't stop me.
