Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi folks, we have been pretty much 'lurkers' on this site for quite awhile..absorbing all the great full timer tips and information. Today I decided it was time to stop with the mouse clicking and hit the keyboard and become a full fledged member of RV Dreams.com.
We live on the east coast of Canada, are self employed business folks, raised the five kids to maturity (at times that is debatable tho)..and we're ready to get rid of the business, sell the stix and bricks, load up the two furkids and "hit the open roads". What a relief to finally have made the big decision..and honestly I can't wait.
A bit of history, we have both worked in the corporate world in the past. DH retired at the age of 50 in 1998 and we started our own business. We had to be here due to aging parents, so figured we should at least add to the retirement income. The kids are raised, the last parent passed on early this year (we miss her dearly)..and we have been plodding along as usual. We did have a taste of the open road..we got the MH out of storage end of March, loaded it up and hit the road for two months. Across into the US, Myrtle Beach SC, then onto NC for awhile then to TN..and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Now we are ready to do it up and go full time.
We still have some major decisions to make..do we keep the house for the first year, or do we sell everything and store what we want to keep for the future...etc etc..do we have enough $$? DH says we definitely do..so I've trusted him this long so thinking I will trust his judgement on this one. We are leaning toward selling the house, and investing the $$ safely and securely for when we return. With 5 kids grown and on their own..part of me does not see the need of a home base to just leave empty, as well as the expense of maintaining it. Being Canadians we will have to return every 12 months (I think-more research I have to do) and we do own land with a camp on it that is setup for RVs also where we can park upon our return visits, and we can also take turns parking with and visiting the kids.
We are not camping virgins..altho we will be full timer virgins..we started camping many years ago with 5 kids (Plus dragging their friends) and 2 big newfoundland dogs in a popup, being towed by a van. Then the kids started into their teens, which halted the camping bug we had. After the last one left home, we purchased a previously owned, darling little class C Motor home, then upgraded a couple of years later to another previously owned Class A-the we did a stint with 2 new fivers and trucks and we are now back into a wonderful Class A..so we do know the motor home is our favorite.
I realize I still have a lot of research to do..and believe me when I say this site is the best resource I've found so far. You all seem so friendly and helpful~I feel like I know everyone already.
DH calls it sprinting...how long do you wait to sprint..you can be here today and gone tomorrow...do we really want to wait until we're in that rocking chair hardly able to move??? I think not...so I guess for us its time to sprint..we are hoping to be done with everything here spring to mid - late summer..and on the road..
So in closing I will say we are open to any and all advice any of you can provide. We are interested in possible work camping...wow the avenues that open up when you make decisions...so long for now folks...here is our link to our blog from our outing this past winter..which I hope to be adding to in the not too distant future!!!
Thank you Laurie!!!! I'm sure I will have alot of "dumb" questions before this is all accomplished...I am so very used to schedules and structure...DH is awaiting the 'meltdown' stage with me lol....

We hope to be fulltime the beginning of the year although not retired. We'll be continuing on our path of semi-retirement. Working some, traveling some, but with fulltime residence in the RV.
Keep us posted on your progress, share the things you've learned and ask any questions that come to mind. And visit chat if you're around in the evening!

Welcome!! This is definitely the friendliest RV forum on the web. Someone here will always be able to answer any RVing related questions, or at least know where to find an answer for you. Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures to come.
There are no "dumb" questions. Even ones that have been asked previously may have not been read by new members. So, ask away. We all welcome them because we all seem to like the idea of helping others with their dreams. And, new questions sometimes bring new perspectives, and that is something that we can all appreciate.
By the way, don't be surprised by an occasional "smart-alecky" answer. It's all about being part of the family. Welcome to that family.
