Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hi Linda, I see that you and Howard are doing Weight Watchers. I'm a 10 year weight watcher person, and I just wanted to give you a couple of hints that really help me and my family. Four of us have been doing it for a looooooong time!
Some of our favorite treats are: Kashi TLC Granola bars - MOST of these are only 2 points. We also like Fiber One Oats and Chocolate bars - these are also 2 points. The Fiber One bars are not as natural as the Kashi bars, but they sure taste good when you want something sweet. Both of these types of bars can be bought at Target.
Skinny Cow ice cream is also very good and low points. And last but not least are the Laughing Cow packages of 8 little cheese wedges.
You may already know about these products, but I just wanted to let you know in case you were not familiar with them. I know how hard it is to try to watch our weight!

I do personal training on the side and offer nutrition advice and here is a website that I have found is great when learning how to read and understand nutrition labels. It has every food product on the market and the government required nutrition label then it gives it a score and explains why:
http://caloriecount.about.com/
When you go to site, look at the top right search bar. Just put in whatever brand you are looking for, or even generic terms like ''cereals" and it will display every cereal out there. Just click on the one you eat or want to eat and read the label and rating.
Eating healthy is pretty basic. Two things, eat less sugar, eat more fiber. Regardless of what you are eating now, if you cut down sugar consumption and increase fiber you will start seeing results even if you do not change anything else.
One other thing that I read somewhere that was cute but easy to remember is this. Break down nutrition of food by how many legs it has.
1. Four Legs, not too healthy, ie cows, pigs, etc. 2. Two Legs, much more healthy, chicken and turkey 3. No Legs, the healthiest, fish and veggies
Okay, good! It sounds like you are definitely in the WW know! I still go to meetings as a maintenance person and love the support that I get there. That would be hard for you and Howard tho since you're on the road so much! It does become a lifestyle if you do it long enough - BUT there are still challenges every day!
Hey Linda, I joined Weight Watchers (again) today as well. Maybe we could swop some ideas and recipes and encourage any other W/Watchers out there to do the same. It's always nice to do it with someone isn't it. Especially during the plateaus and down times we can encourage one another. With my awful back exercise is almost impossible, although I will we walking more and more.
I love the idea of encouraging each other and sharing ideas! Howard and I are getting into the groove of counting and making better choices and the weight is dropping.
One of the things that we are loving is Arnold Select Sandwich Thins 100% Whole Wheat. They are only 1 point and I am finding all kinds of ways to use them. Of course we use them for sandwiches but I am making wonderful toasted versions to go with soup and salad.
Spray the halves with Cooking Spray (Olive Oil or Butter flavor) Sprinkle with basil and garlic salt. 1 pt. Sprinkle with a little parmesan cheese. add another point. Bake in 400 oven until golden brown.
I also make little veggie pizzas with them. Spray halves with Cooking Spray (Olive Oil or Butter flavor) Spoon on pizza sauce Add your choice of veggies Sprinkle with a little mozzarella cheese and bake in 400 oven until edges are golden brown. 2-4 points (depending on how much cheese) for two small pizzas.
Let me know if you come up with something to do with them. I'm having fun creating new things with them.
Another discovery we found is Turkey Tenderloin Mignons by Simply Gormet. OMG! These are delicious. We think they are better than beef. They are wrapped in bacon just like a beef mignon. They are only 4 pts.
WOW ...Thanks for all the tips. I have just started WW and right now it is all so confusing and I am not sure where to start. This thread is really helping.
Hope to you down the road and I hope you see "less" of me.
Vicky

I'm getting back into WW & just bought the Turkey Mignons that you mentioned, Linda. Haven't tried them yet, but I'm looking forward to it since they look good on the package! Maybe I can get hubby to fire up the grill this weekend...
Have you ever checked out the Hungry Girl site. She has loads of recipes that are simple and use things that are easily available. I have her first cookbook and our family including 2 sons have several favorites from it. I get her newsletter and it often has great recipes too. She gives the weight watcher points for every recipe. She is going to have a cooking show soon too. Here's the link to her site: Hungry Girl
Great job on the weight loss Linda!

No diet tips but be sure to check out Fabgrandma's site for gluten-free recipes. She recently started using Truvia and has lost 6# already.
Thanks Donna. I'll check out her site and look into Truvia. I use Splenda for coffee, tea and cereal but haven't tried Truvia. I assume the big benefit in weight loss would be with using it for cooking. I bake my own gluten-free bread which calls for a little sugar so may have to consider changing to a sugar substitute.
Hi I love this site http://glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com/ for gluten free ideas. The writer has become a cook and her husband is a chef. They have recently published their first book.
There are many links to other gluten free people and products. You might be there for hours. *smile*.
There are also a few suitable recipes on the low carb sites that will help. I love Oopsie rolls. found on this site http://blog.yourlighterside.com/p/eats-recipes.html right here http://blog.yourlighterside.com/2009/05/gluten-free-low-carb-buns-aka-oopsie.html
Wanted to update y'all on the Turkey Mignons...we BBQ'd them this weekend. I did make a couple of mistakes with them - 1st, I only thawed 1 of them for my hubby & I to split (this is what we do when we have beef mignons). One for the two of us wasn't quite enough. Then my big boo boo was that I marinated the mignon overnight. When hubby went to put the mignon on the grill, it fell apart into about 7 small pieces! He was able to save the biggest of the pieces & grill it on 1 side but ultimately he scooped all the pieces off the grill & we had to finish cooking it indoors. Who would have thought that 1 little turkey mignon would be such a challenge!! It did taste good, though, so we'll try it again but without the long marinating time.
Hi all, I joined Weight Watchers Online 2 weeks ago and have lost 3 pounds. Also increased the dog walking to 4 times a day. Even Kasey has lost weight. :)
Thanks for the link to Hungry Girl. Great site.
Still looking for the Turkey Mignons. Our Walmart didn't have them. I have whole turkey tenderloin in the freezer. Thought I would slice them into 2 inches pieces and wrap with very lean bacon and grill. Will save the smaller pieces for soup. Since I stock up on ground turkey and tenderloins when they are on sale, these should be less expensive.
Good luck to everyone in your quest to be more healthy.

A few years ago I belonged to Weight Watchers, but last year when I needed to lose weight I came across a free site called Sparkpeople.com. It is on the same basis as the WW but I really like the site. Last year I lost 55 lbs using Sparkpeople. This site has phone applications if a person has that kind of phone. The site is easy to use and I have gotten to know some of the other people on the site, who are always there and willing to help you get over the rough spots. This site encourages you to join teams with like interests so that you can help each other. My must active group is actually RV Enthusiast's, though I belong to several others. This might be an alternative for someone like myself that needed to lose weight, but found it hard to put in my budget another expense.
WOW! The new WW Program is going to take a bit of getting used to! I went to my meeting yesterday and was very surprised by the changes! I think that it will encourage all of us towards more healthy eating though, since now they are counting protein, fat, cars and fiber - not calories. I don't do etools, so I had to buy a new points calculator also. What does everyone think about the new plan?
We are still a bit leary about it. It is going to take some time to get used to.
Take today for instance, here it is 3:00 p.m. and I still have 20 points to eat. I had some dry cereal and yogurt for breakfast and then a salad and some cottage cheese and a banana for lunch. I'm not sure how I'm going to get that many points in without eating some bad for me foods.
I need to buy a points calculator so I will have it when I grocery shop.
I just signed up for WW online. I hope this motivates me to start eating right again. I do have a few pounds to lose. I also want to start feeling better. I know alot of that has to do with the foods I am eating.
