Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

We bought it!

The first step is completed....we bought the tow vehicle smile.gif!! 2008 Ford-450, 6.4L V8 32V DDI OHV. Al is so pumped smile.gif.

Question: extended warranties? We're thinking it's a good idea, but would like opinions please. It's directly from Ford, and will be covered at any Ford dealer nationwide, wherever we are. Please let me know what you think!

Next up: Hershey RV show next week....some major wheeling/dealing to be done smile.gif.

Karen and Al,

You will get both pro and con on the warranties for vehicles.  On a great number of products, I might not get extended warranties.  However, when we purchased our used 2008 F450, we did take out the warranty.  Might be a waste of money, but even one repair covered by the warranty may well make it worthwhile.

I understand about Al being pumped.  I am the same way myself.  Normally, I don't get excited about vehicles, but there is something about that F450 that I really enjoy.  Ours is a King Ranch version, although I would have settled for just a Lariat.  Maybe it is the knowledge of where that truck will someday be taking us.

Plus, the F450 seems to do a really good job of hauling around our Mobile Suites. which at present weighs around 17,000 lbs.  Now, we haven't pulled it far, nor have we pulled any long steep hills, so for that part it is a wait and see issue.

Good luck with your RV hunting.

Terry

Terry is right about extended warranties. You will get a 50/50 split if they are worth it or not. I have yet to buy an extended warranty that was worth the paper it was written on.There was always some exclution for what I needed fixed. This time we took the money they wanted for the warranty($ 2300.00) and put it in the bank and add a little to it every month.Wouldn't cover a major repair if needed but that's the chance we decided to take.By the way congratulations on your new to you truck.
