Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

We're in Sikeston, MO - Any Neighbors?

As you may know, our first workamping gig was cancelled, so we are not going to WI.  We put down our anchor here at Town and Country RV Park in Sikeston, MO Saturday afternoon.  It is a Passport America park.

We found out Sunday AM via email that we had no work in WI.  (Not even a phone call ....sheesh)  Halfway there and 600 miles under our (seat)belts, we have decided to stay put. Today I paid a month's rent.

After four crazy / hectic / stressful years in management of storage facilities, we intend to enjoy our enforced break, while still looking for a Fall/Winter workamping gig.  I am doing some online work and Dave is getting in some cycling miles.

This really gives us a chance to de-stress a bit, to really settle into our rig and new lifestyle and get some kind of routine for our lives going while on the road.

All things do happen for a reason!

So, in case you happen to be nearby, this is a nice little park with reasonable rates including cable and WiFi.  If you need a place to land, come on in!  If you happen to be nearby and want to visit, come on in!  (Take off yer shoes first, tho...giggle)  We are in site #20.  You might just see the American and Scottish flags flyin'.

Drop us a PM if ya decide to swing by.  Who knows?  We may be takin' a nap!

Cheers all!

Are you workamper.com members? There seems to be no shortage of summer jobs still available.

Also check out http://www.work-for-rvers-and-campers.com/ for possible leads.

Hey, if you want to eat out and have some good old country cooking go to the original "home of the throwed rolls" restaurant. I'm having a senior moment and can't remember the name of it but any of the locals will know - just tell them the original restaurant for the "throwed rolls".

How much is the monthly rent there, we just might be by later on this year?

Hiya Dan,

Summer jobs there are, yes.  We even had a couple of offers today...one back in Texas...gee we just LEFT there and really do not want to swelter in the heat again...and one in Utah...but to go 1500 miles for site/partial electricity...um...I dunno.  We tend to think we will sit tight here.

We aren't desperate for work...have that emergency fund...but want to work...but do not want to just jump at the first thing that comes along if it does not feel right and/or sensible.

Are we nuts?  Well...maybe ya shouldn't answer that!  Teehee!biggrin

Anyhow, it is heartening to get phone calls and offers!

Still searchin' for just the right gig....but taking tomorrow through Sunday off to prowl the area a bit with my Scotsman and regroup to make a fresh start on Monday!

Lambert's for the throwed rolls. And if you get over to Memphis- Gus's fried Chicken and Dyers for an old time hamburger. Can you tell we like to eat?   We are in St. Charles.  Let us know if you get up around St. Louis for a day or weekend trip.  If we get the opportunity, we might drop by.  We are just wannabes now- so it will have to be a weekend.

TxYellowRose, we were in Sikeston about 1 - 1/2 weeks ago and stayed at Hinton RV Park for our stay. We visited with the workampers there and they have been working 6 days a week, I think they said,  because the other workamper couple quit and left. If you are looking for another workamping job, you might go down and talk to them...just FYI for ya...netters  biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

We've also stayed at Town and Country. Georgia has family down that way, so we've stayed there when our usual spot (DMIL's apt.) was already taken by relatives from Colorado. When we stayed at Town and Country once, the power was off, and he didn't bother to tell me until I called him and said I wasn't getting electricity from the pedestal. He was happy to take my money though, knowing it was off. That really irritated me and I was glad we had only paid for one night (we weren't sure how many nights we'd be in town). I will probably never stay there again, as I felt that wasn't very ethical to not be upfront about the power being off. It was quite hot that day, and we had no way of cooling the RV. I'm sure he was just trying to keep me there, rather than me going on up to Cape or something, but I still think he should have told me before I paid. Just my 2 cents.
