Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
One of the RV dealerships told us about some fencing that collapses, so that we would have a little yard for the pups to play in without being on leash. Anyone know about these?
We've been looking at the portable electronic fences for when we go full time, our little guys are used to the electronic fence we have in our sticks and bricks home now, so this would be an easy switch for them. They are available at pet stores and Cabella's. They have up to an 150' circle and can be lowered to smaller circumfrence from that point. This will give them the freedom they are used to.

You have to be careful using X-Pens or other types of fence. Most RV Parks and State Parks have a strict rule about "Leash" rules. Some will not allow X-Pens to be used as it is not a leash. State Parks simply state a leash not longer than six feet and a person on the other end is required. Depends on how strict they are, but I always try to be within the letter of the law.
As far as the electronic fence, I am sure it would not be allowed or approved.
In volunteering at State Parks, the rangers always insisted we enforce the leash law. Second infraction resulted in expulsion of the camper and pet. Some even make cats be on leash. Sometimes fun to watch.
just be careful how big a "yard" you make. we have 2 dogs and we put up fencing for them but they are never outside without one of us. we try to surround our chairs with the fence so when we sit outside they can be next to us. keep a lease on them anyway so if the charge at someone for any reason you can control them easily. and of course always ask upon signin whether you can put a fence up, it saves having to take it down and bad feelings later.
Be careful with your pets when they are outside. I have been seeing and hearing more coyotes in places that are not all that remote. Keep a very watchful eye on your pets to help keep them safe.
When we were in our campground in Cape Cod.....they owners told our neighbors to take down their little "pen" they had made for their 2 little yorkies. Told them to take it down or they would have to leave. Rules stated "must be on a leash when outside".... Just be careful, and go by the rules. Rule of thumb would be to ask first....

Jamie, I'm definately not afraid of dogs, but the logic behind it is if you make the rule for one, it has to be in effect for all or else if anything does happen where it wasn't enforced, the liability would be shared by the CG owner. I travel with a cat and a dog, btw.
I think the two biggest reasons many parks don't allow them is because of the damage they do to the lawn in that particular area and the the fact some people put dogs out that bark continuessly at anything that moves with no thought for others. I am a big dog lover but will not allow my dog to disturb others. I think it' easier to just not allow them than it is to police the few that mess it up for the rest.

RVing probably not a reality any more.It was a good time while it lasted.
We are finding that more and more parks do have "Doggie Park" areas, where the pet can be off leash to play and exercise. However, we have two very small guys, one is 5 lbs the other is 7lbs. So we always keep them on a leash, even in play areas, simply because they are just a nibble to a larger dog and it would only take one time to do our little guys in. We take them for walks for exercise and just go with the rules, it's much easier that way.
