Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

What would be the best

What would be suggested as the first RV to purchase for beginners? we are selling our house and want to get on the road.
Someone told me that I should purchase a RV that is about 5 years old because they loose their value a good bit int he first 5 years. Any opinions?

Buying used at any point is a great suggestion, as they do depreciate quickly and lose a lot of value in the first number of years.

As to what to buy, that's hard. You have to decide whether you want a motor home or a trailer, and what size. It would be best for you to visit a large show and get to go in a number of different rigs to get a feeling for what suits you best.

Your financial situation also comes into play. Most everyone could see themselves in a 44' Prevost, but very few of us can afford the half million dollars a 5 year old one would cost.

If this is going to be your home, then you should be very careful as to what you choose. Once you decide on the type that right for you, then a search of past discussions will point out the brands that are popular, with this group.

Good luck,

It is really a personal choice. You might consider renting a couple different types before buying.

Go to RV shows, sit in different types of RV's and imagine your everyday life and how it feel's .Spend time just sitting and listening to what other's say.Imagine cooking a meal in the kitchen.Would it work for you? Check the toilet and shower out. Can you use it comfortably? You will soon get a feel for what you really want. You have to get past the Corian counters and large TV's and remember you will be spending lot'sof time together so itmust feel like "HOME'. You will know when you find " the one".We started out looking at 5th wheels, then Class A's and finally bought our 5th wheel and truck.Once you narrow it down to either a 5th wheel or a motorhome then compare floor plans and go from there.Research,Research,Research.

If you think a fifth wheel would be up your ally look at the fifth wheel and truck Travlinbob has for sale down in the for sale section.  It's a good combo price for a just broke in unit.

What works for one may not work for another...You just have to try them out and see what works for you
