Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hey folks, When we leave the 5er for a day we do not cut our water off. We probably should but since we live in it full time it is never cut off. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to upgrade their water lines? Are the fittings the same as would be on a house? You can buy the stainless hoses different lengths and if the fittings would work that would seem to be a lot better than the cheap stuff we have in ours. Plus I could add some valves so you could isolate different areas. We plan to go full time in the next 2-3 years and I thought about just changing out a hose a month until they are all done. Any thoughts on this idea? I guess I have always feared coming in from somewhere and water be all over the 5er. Just a thought.......... Billy

The stainless steel braided lines that you are referring to would not be the best option, those are typically used as supplies for washing machines. What you should use is PEX, run all cold lines in Blue, hot lines in Red, easy to cut, connectors are crimped, add valves as needed, G
Just my opinion,but why go to the time and expense of changing water lines when it only takes a few seconds before you leave to shut the valve off and a few seconds to turn it back on when you get back?

In our Carriage the water lines are rated for much higher pressure than you should find in any campground, and we use an adjustable pressure regulator on the inlet set to 40 pounds. So as a practical matter I don't think your idea is at all necessary.
Hey guys thanks for the relpys. We live in the fifth wheel (2 years old) and will be going full time in next few years. We also own a 28 ft TT (1.5 years old) that we travel in now. Well last year was a really bad winter here in MS. I had the TT freeze protected so when I filled it with water it was fine......... until I got MILES away from home! :) After a long day of driving we set up and were just settling down when my bride said we had water spewing in the bathroom. The flush valve at the tolit had a small seam in it that was spewing. I found out later that you should put something on the foot flush to hold it open during cold weather. I also found I had to pull the tolit to get to the valve. :( Seems only a drop of water will bust that valve. What fustrated me most was there was no way to isolate the tolit..... which meant we could use no water in the camper at all. That is what made me think of redoing my 5er and putting valves and maybe better lines in the 5er before we get on the road.
Gene I will look into the PEX hoses. I like the color coded idea. Racerguy we really did try cutting the water off when we left but we forgot more than we remembered and finally just gave up. Seems the older we get the more we forget!! Luvglass you are most probably right not worth the effort but I sure would have liked a valve on that line that afternoon. Billy Had the same issue with our TT several years ago. Since we had the trailer for many years i had fittings to disconect and cap the line until we got repair parts. You could put a valve on the line under the toilet if its of concern to you, if you add the valve you will never have another toilet problem. (murphy's law) Tom
