Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

What Do You Do with Your Shoes?

Right now we have a kitty litter box (no kitty) that we use to put our shoes in when we enter the 5er.  It sits right at the door.

We walk barefoot or in stocking feet in the rig.  No outdoor shoes allowed!

Looking for ideas!  What do you do with your shoes?

Cheers!

Hey Texan Chick,

We just leave ours inside at the door, or outside by the steps...

Regards, Howard

Same here,we have an old copper style tub Linda decorated to put our shoes in(we also keep a cloth to wipe the dog's feet if it's wet outside). It sits right inside the door.

Just on the floor, by the door. Kitty litter box sounds fine to me. We even have a vinyl shoe organizer hanging on the inside of a closet, but not for shoes. We put all kinds of other things in that. You could hang one (or part of one) by the door, on the wall or something, and put the shoes in there.

We keep ours on our feet, just like we did in our regular home.

We wear ours too.

The only time we don't is if they're muddy, and then we leave them on our little rug at the top of the stairs until we can get them cleaned up.

Thanks, all.

WalMart had some red or blue plastic tubs out for 4th of July.  Got one for the shoes.  It is deeper than the kitty box and matches the blue in the quilt on the couch.

We lived in Minnesota for a couple of years and everyone up there takes off their shoes, not only in their own homes but when visiting others, and I used to go barefoot/sockfoot in my homes in Texas before that, so we've just gotten into the habit in the rig.

Cheers,
Betty

If it is real wet or muddy, I leave them at the door.  I usually wear cowboy boots and if I go in or out a lot I just leave them on.  Did the same thing at my house so why should I change.  If I am in the barnyard and they are covered with manure, they stay at the door.  I vacuum on a regular basis and if it gets bad, a carpet cleaner will do the job. smile

I have a piece carpet on the floor, next to the front door of the rv and that's where we and all guest must deposit their shoes, boots, sandals, etc. If raining or muddy, they stay outdoors in a vented (so they can dry) container to prevent the animals from carting them off.
Same rule applies @ the stick & bricks, that's why our carpet and linoleum looks the same as it did when it was installed.   I also remove my shoes before going into a neighbor’s house or rv.

If you look carefully inside the door of our camper you will see a cloth shoe holder attached to the front shower wall. When we take our shoes off at night we slip them there. We also store flip-flops, tennis shoes and other goodies there like insect repellent, sun screen, toilet paper, etc. as there are numerous pockets available. During the day, we wear them inside provided they're not too dirty.

Interesting topic!

We've always worn them in the house, and we wear them in the RV. I have a nice basket on the floor in the living room, where we keep our shoes during the day.  biggrin

I leave mine at the door on a mat. The path between the door and my recliner gets a lot of wear. I left them outdoors when parked at my daughters house and the neighbors dog carried one of them off. My wife does wear hers in the rv because she needs the foot support but she is neater than I am.

I removed the riser or front of the first step going to the bedroom and we park our shoes there. It was just empty space.

Years ago, in another career, I was on the faculty at the University of Saskatchewan for a year. It seemed to be a custom, at least in that part of Canada, to leave your shoes, boots, mukluks, whatever on the front porch whenever you entered someone else's home as a guest.

I also had some neighbors here in Columbus , GA who did the same thing at their own home. They were from Puerto Rico - he an Army officer, and she a stay-at-home mom. And I always thought what a civilized, thoughtful thing to do... although here in the south you would need to carefully shake out any creatures that had lodged in your footwear overnight.

Happy 4th everybody!
