Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We will be hitting the road next spring and using Texas as our home base. This seems like a dumb question (probably the first of many) Can we renew our MH and Toad registration in Texas via mail or online? Do we have to submit proof of vehicle inspection? We will likely be in another state when the registration expires. The Texas DMV website was not clear.
You cand renew your registrations by mail or online and you do not need to show proof of an inspection. You only need the inspection when you are actually in the state. You have 3 days to get the inspections once you enter Texas.
We started fulltiming in February. We initially domicled in Texas but found we made a huge mistake. After 1.5 months we cut our losses and changed to South Dakota. Saves us major money on insurances and registrations. Also, SD does not require vehicle inspections. We can renew registration online.
Please, unless you have already done so, contact an insurance agent in Texas and get quotes. Our fiver insurance went from 535 a year in NJ to 1315 a year in Texas. Changed to SD and it went back to 555 a year. We only had insurance 5 weeks and had a claim in excess of 10,000. Insurance company (Naitonal Interstate) and agent have been great. Accident happened late May. We have check already in our safe waiting for dealer to do repairs.
Texas might well be ideal for your circumstance, but was not for us.
I registered both my coach and toad in Tx through the mail. I just called the county office and they directed me to the forms I would need from their website. They gave me the exact cost, I included a check, and had my plates and reigstration 2 weeks later. It took 4 weeks to get the titles. I found the whole process to be very easy. I have since renewed both registrations, again through the mail, no problems.

We have family in Texas and are originally from Texas & New Mexico. So we were planning on that for a domicile. Good advice to check out the insurance rates.
