Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

I just wanted to share that I did what I set out to do on Sunday.  I drove the motor home from Sequim to Port Townsend.  35 miles.  Through the little town of Sequim, popped onto Highway 101 (a four lane highway) and then took the exit to Highway 20 (a two lane, winding road and then through the small town of Port Townsend (that has very narrow streets) into the local park to dump the tanks (Ron did that) and then over to the bone yard (the area where the carnival people live). 

Ron yelled once real loud and I told him don't yell at me.  Seems he got scared thinking I was too close to right side of the road that had a huge ditch along it.  He said stay a little closer to the middle, we are big, cars will move over a little for us.  I don't think I was that close to the side but since I don't have any depth perception (I only have one eye) he might have been right.

I was so proud of myself.  That I did it and felt okay doing it.  I could tell I was a little tense driving because when I got to the bone yard my shoulders hurt and I had to stretch my hands out.

But I did it and that's what counts.  I now know that I can drive the motor home and am planning on driving some every time we get on the road.  I think it will be good for me to keep doing that as well as give Ron a break from doing all the driving. 

Our next carnival stop is at Ft. Lewis.  I don't think I am ready to drive over the Narrows Bridge but maybe at least to the area right before it.  We will see come next Monday.

I wanted to say thanks for all the encouragement I received as I anticipated another new step in this journey we call life.

Congratulations, knew you could do it. Pretty soon you'll be very comfortable and be able to share the driving on long trips.

I know that Jo spelling me makes life much easier on long moving days.

That's fantastic!  Driving a big vehicle is scary but like most things, if you make up your mind, you can do it.  Good for you!

Congratulations, Ali.

Each successive time behind the wheel gets easier.  May I suggest you find a way to compensate for your lack of depth perception?  One way to do this is to find a spot on edge of the windshield and line it up with the edge of any road at the time you are a safe distance from the right edge and not over the dividing line.  Once you do this you will be able to tell at a glance when you are properly situated on ANY road. 

Practice make perfect.

With the new second bridge at the Narrows, you should not have a problem there.

Good for you .. I would like to try driving our 5th wheel some this summer... hubby tells me I can drive anything but I am not so sure... I do not do well backing up .. patti
