Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We have a 2001 5th wheel .. that we bought used.. to give this RV thing a try.. We are loving it.. this summer we have parked in a camp ground near owr home and plan to spend most of the summer living at the camper...
The problem I have is we have mini blinds on all of the windows .. I hate them.. I have never had them in my house...in the camper they let too much light in the bedroom and do nothing to keep the heat from the sun out..they are terrible to get around to open the windows.. and they are ugly...
Has anyone ever changed them out to something else... I found some Roman Shades I like but they are way to long
I have seen that Campingworld sells and will install the day & night blinds. We had mini blinds in our TT, we also hated them. Seemed like every time we touch them they would get bent.

Day and Night blinds are the new window shades for RVs. You can even get some that are remote controlled...I for get the brand name.
You can see through them in the day mode and in the night mode they block out the light. Or you can raise them up completely.
Our mini blinds only let in a little light even in direct sun. It depends on how they are turned closed. I know some people need a very dark bedroom, we don't mind a little light.

I also hate mini blinds. We have day/night shades in our fifth wheel. I recently ran across some Home Engery Window panels at Target. They also help keep the heat in during the winter and the cool in during the summer. They have Thinsulate backing.
We bought tension rods at WalMart to place in the valances and I cut the window panels to fit the window. The panels are sold individually and are kind of expensive ($29.99 each). We bought 3 panels and did all the windows in our fifth wheel. I only had to cut and helm. They really look great and work great to block the sun too.
We had the day/night shades that just about all manufacturers install. On our first trip out in the motorhome two of them broke. We had the MCD shades installed while we were in McKinney Texas. There are two shades - one is black type mesh that allows you to see out but nobody can see in and the other is solid (ours is cream color) and lets no light in and keeps cold and heat out (some). We opted for the manual type. We just pull down gently and they slowly roll up. You can pull down either shade that you want or both if one is already down and you need the other. They are wonderful and we love them. They have made the biggest difference in our coach.
We have seen Roman shades in some coaches also. They look nice too. Anything is better than the mini blinds or those pleated day/night shades that keep breaking. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Hey Happytrails, thanks for the tip on the MCD shades. Something we will definitely consider when the time comes for replacements.
