Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

French Canadien Friend

I am a career soldier with 32 years completed. During my career I have served with the Navy as a Weapon Surface Technician for almost 5 years then transferred to the Medical group as a Medical Assistant (Medic) then became a Registered Practical Nurses with a Operating Room certification and I have been working in the OR since 1993. I will have served +35 years by the time I retire in July 2013. The pre retirement plan has been in motion since 2007 when we decided to buy our Truck a F350 diesel, crew cab, short box, SRW, 4X2. The 4X2 option turned out to be a  big mistake cause a truck in snow on 2 wheels don't do so well. You would figure that a Canadian living in the province of Quebec that usually gets a lot of snow would know better but yeah! what can I say? But... In a stroke of luck or call it faith... when I returned from Afghanistan in 2008 and visiting family in Montreal, the beast got stolen evileye. Luck is that I had opted to take the car insurance with full replacement value option. So now I have a 2009 F350 with 4X4 (paid extra)biggrin.  Both the Truck and House will be paid for by summer 2011. The plan was to buy the Fifth wheel at that time and combine both payment to pay it off the by the time we retire... well that did not happen. Who said a military man had to be excessively discipline... Yeap! with some recalculation, we place our order 3 weeks ago and our unit a Big horn 3410 RE by Heartland will get here in 3 to 4 weeks. Both S & D are young adult 21 and 20 still requiring mom and dad help but will be 24 & 23 by retirement. If every thing goes as plan will it the road then. Beside we (Carole and I) can always text them our advise right!confuse

Richard

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement.  Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on your timeline to hit the road.  We have looked at the 3410RE and really liked it.  Maybe when we upgrade that will be our choice.  The time will fly by and you will be on the road in no time.  Also a big welcome to the forum.

It almost goes without saying that Jo and I welcome you to the RV Dreams forum and a very supportive family of like-minded dreamers and those already living the dream.  In addition, allow me to offer you my thanks for your service to your country.

If you have done any reading on the forums at all, you probably already know that the participants here are very knowledgeable.  So it is a nice compliment to the wealth of information provided by Howard and Linda themselves.

Feel free to ask any questions you wish, because the more questions that get asked around here, the more that we all learn.  Or, if you possess the knowledge that is being sought, feel free to chime in with your answers.

Welcome.

Terry

Thanks for the warm welcome

I will likely fulltime when we retire in 2013

My last tour in Afghanistan 2007/2008 was at the Role III Multinational Medical Unit (field hospital) in Kandahar. Canada was the lead nation with support of many coalition Doctor, nurses, medic and technician including the US. We took care of all coalition soldiers and Afghan partner (police/army) and locals (men, women and children). The role is now reverse, recently the US took lead of the Hospital and Canada is now one of the supporting nation.

Just 3 - 4 weeks to go before I take delivery

Welcome to the life. My wife and I have just begun our full time journey after a couple of years of half timing. Sounds like you have everything figured out. Thanks for the service in Afganistan also.
