Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

We have a satellite dish mounted on the roof of the camper and it ocurred to me that there is most likely a wind speed the dish should be retracted. I don't know what that is and so I am turning to the most knowledgable group on the internet for the answer. Your help is appreciated.

While I'm not experienced as to what speed one should consider, I do know that they should be retracted, if for no other reason than concerns with hitting something overhead.  Obviously, if one's dish is up, it could be raising your vehicle height.

Jo was coming home the other day on an interstate highway in Oklahoma City and saw a fifth wheel going the other direction with their regular antenna still up.  Our hope is that they reached their next destination without hitting an overpass or something.

I would imagine that any type of antenna or dish hitting an overhead object would also damage the roof and compromise the structure and create a leak.

Ken & Sarah,
I believe it's recommended to stow it if the winds get much over 40MPH, and we know some people who stow it a much lower wind speeds. We are risk takers and have only put it down once in 4 years, without any problems.

The dish should be stowed flat for traveling.

It didn't even dawn on me that he was talking about a wind speed, not the speed created by a vehicle traveling down the road.
