Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Got the "Almost" Greatest Scare of My Life

Actually, the greatest scare in my life was standing up in front of 300+ church members to give a short talk.  I've NEVER known fear like that.

But back to the "almost".

Today, Jo and I had the great joy and privilege to meet and visit with Connie and Tracy (Contra) for a few hours.  They are passing through the Oklahoma City area on their way to Texas and got in touch with us.  So we drove down to meet them.

They are, in one sense, remarkable people that in their '40's are beginning this new lifestyle in which so many of us dream about.  They were very gracious hosts, and I must say that it was a very delightful afternoon.  I really envy them at this time.

As we were leaving, they commented that they valued the suggestions and advice that I had given them, both via e-mail and within the forums.  Now that is what brought about the "almost" greatest scare of my life.  In retrospect, I have always tried to give thoughtful ideas and opinions, but to think that the two of them are starting this new life partly on what I have told them has caused me to really put things into perspective.

Because of that "scare", I must continue to ALWAYS give thoughtful answers and opinions to others so that the advice I give is accurate and honest.  Even if it means that I must sometimes give harsh criticism to an idea, it must be done so as to not mislead someone.

For the reason that I received my latest scare, I cannot stress enough that our answers to questions always be thoughtful and honest.  God forbid that I give bad advice that could cause harm or unneeded cost to someone else.

Now, to Connie and Tracy, may God's blessings be with you in all of your future.

Terry

Terry ~

We really enjoyed meeting you and Jo today too. It's so comforting to know that we have family all over the country and we look forward to meeting many others down the road.

Sorry about the scare! We do value your opinions but would never hold you personally responsible!! :)

The advice, guidance and support we have received through this forum - yours included - have been invaluable.  We have learned so much over the past 6 months and our confidence has grown exponentially with each piece of new information.  But with that said, we also recognize that much of what is stated on this forum are personal opinions. We respect all opinions and advice, but ultimately we know that we are solely responsible for the decisions we make.

I've said it before, but I don't think we'd be where we are without the RV-Dreams family.  We'd probably still be sitting in our cubicles wishing that we had the courage to change our lives. It's really hard to believe that we're actually living our dream! So please continue to put yourself out there...you made a difference in our lives and probably many others.

Hope to see you down the road!

Terry,I would say we value the thoughtful advise you are known for. Your posts IMO are always well thought out and helpful. I have a tendency at times to be short and to the point and it comes across as harsh. My intentions are always to help even if it doesn't seem so. I wish I had your way with words. Keep up the good work.

I would have to say the same about everyone here and have to echo Contra's post.

The advise given here is top notch. Yes, we recognize that they are opinions but they are opinions garnered from experience, be it over the road trucking or pulling a 5er or running about in a MH.

I have read so much of this forum and gained, I believe, some pretty insightful knowledge. However, one has to take it with a grain of salt and do their own homework and make their own decisions.

That being said, this is still a very valuable resource for those who are just starting out, seasoned vets or those of us still dreaming about living the dream.

So, instead of "being scared", keep on posting and from those of us still dreaming, THANK YOU!

Dreaming and doing the homework necessary.

Looking at:
F-350/Ram 3500 type truck, possibly an Airstream or a smaller 5th Wheel.

However, there is still time to change the configuration, just a plan.

Oh, I'm not really scared.  I firmly believe that one needs to contribute to help others, and I will continue to do so.  Mostly, I posted this so that all of us can keep in mind that what we advise is likely to be taken to heart by those reading the forum threads.

For that reason, I felt that everyone should be aware of the influence that we may have on the future of others.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words.  The participants of the RV Dreams forum are exceptional people, and I'm proud to be a part of the group, and happy to be able to contribute in some small way.  I may be nearly 64, but I'm still learning too.

Have a great day and help someone smile.

Terry
