Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We are talking with a campground in Wisconsin about workamping with a start date of July 1. I repeat....Yikes!!!
The phone interview I had today was pleasant and it sounds like it would be a good first start for us. It is not a huge park, with mainly weekenders, so the middle of the week would be fairly quiet. Full site, 50 amp, laundry, free uniforms/caps, WiFi, cable, etc. for 20 hours a couple with additional hours at pay. And there is definitely the opportunity for additional hours. Not a terrific pay rate, but pay at least. It would give me the opportunity to do some extra work I have been investigating (got an offer in that area today, too). There may also be an opportunity to do Reiki and drum circles as part of my workamping hours.
Well, cool.
July until mid October would get us out of the Texas heat, get our feet wet in workamping, give Dave a shot at a bike race in WI before we start our job, etc. Then we hope to line up something for back here in TX for the Fall/Winter.
Looks like we'll have another phone chat with the folks tomorrow and then I guess we'll see what happens.
That's not very far away...now until outta here in early June probably. Yikes! Lots to do in the meantime but we can swing it if that is what we want to do.
Scary and exciting at the same time. You think March 2011 is a long time away and then all of a sudden it may be just a couple of months. Oh my goodness...what the HECK are we doing?!?!?!? HAHAHA!
I think I'll go hug my comfy couch. I'll miss it when we hit the road.

You adventure, by the sound of things, is going to get an early start. Wish I could say that but I don't even have the RV or the means to pull one yet.
Enjoy the dream!

Dreaming and doing the homework necessary.
Looking at: F-350/Ram 3500 type truck, possibly an Airstream or a smaller 5th Wheel.
However, there is still time to change the configuration, just a plan.
Betty, sounds like a great opportunity, summer time in Wisconsin should be great. If you take the job be sure and let fellow RV Dreamers know where it is maybe some would stop by for a visit, Good Luck.

WOW!! That was easy. My wife brought up the question a couple nights ago about being able to afford to retire and travel...if the workkamp opportunities come that easy, then supplanting retirement income should not be that difficult. If the job doesn't fit your likes, you just adapt, learn to roll with the punches and at the end of the season be gracious for the opportunity to have the experience and move on. Good on you for this "new" life experience. And "YIPPEE!" definitely should replace "YIKES!".

Looking forward to retirement and leaving the sticks and bricks behind. Hopefully class of 2017.
I have to agree with everyone else - YIPPEE instead of YIKES !!! I know that the work situation is one of the things that is holding Terri and I from jumping in. We hope to learn some things at the Rally and then who knows.
Congrats on the start of your adventure. You will look back years from now and be so glad that you started now and not later.

Dave and I are not retiring...we are in our upper/mid fifties, respectively. Our plan is to workamp, me do virtual assistant and/or Reiki work and whatever else comes along.
We are optimistic about the working part.
We will be with a KOA; this was our 4th job offer in about as many months. Again, not much $$ but more "perks" in return (lower hours per couple for site than many places, more benes included, etc.) and we do get paid for all hours over those needed for the site with the opportunity to probably work as much as we want. It will get us trained in the KOA system.
The possible opportunity to do Reiki work and facilitate some drum circles as part of my workamping hours absolutely rocks!
The same day we got this offer I got an interview offer in the virtual assistant area. Just out of the blue. Declined the interview, as it was 40 hours a week and I cannot commit to that right now. Still working our "real" job until we make the jump.
Really the biggest heebie-jeebie I have is getting reliable Internet access. Dave can use the campground WiFi but I will need my own for the VA work.
Right now I'm leaning towards satellite. Give me the southern sky and apparently I'm good. Might look into satellite/tethering combo. Still looking at options but satellite is probably it.
Right now is all about timing. When to have the moving sale, when to get the satellite, when to tell our boss, and so forth.
Sorry I'm rambling....I'm just kinda excited!
Keep the support comin'!! Thanks, everyone!
