koa kamp rewards card yay or nay???

Hey Luvbytes,

If you are going to use KOA's for more than 10 nights a year, it's worth getting the card. I had one for a few years as I would use KOA's on my motorcycle trips to Sturgis and back. The KOA's were good for me as I could reserve my spot to pitch my tent or setup my tent trailer(I towed behind my bike for a couple years), or reserve a Kampin' Kabin, where I could just show up, get my keys and throw the sleeping bag on the bed for a nights sleep.

Don't know how much I'd use them with the traveling we do now.

yeah we are gonna be full timers and only staying at koa's so maybe it is very worth it then!

In our experience, we have found KOA's generally to be overpriced and the most expensive park in the area. And they seem to charge extra for every little thing.

A lot of full timers say KOA stands for Keeps On Adding. We pretty much avoid them unless necessary.

I avoid KOA'S like the plague.As Fred said I find them terribly overpriced. Get a Passport America membership and you will save a lot of money.

We don't stay in KOA's either. We find they are overpriced, compared to other just as nice parks.

Passport America membership is nice.. We always pay for our membership first trip out for the season.

There are many RV parks even nicer than KOA that you can workkamp at.

KOA used to be the best around, but now they are the highest priced. We have the Rewards Card, but only use them as a last resort.

When we last bought a value "kard" it was $10 and now it is $24. That means you have to save $24 in a year to make it worthwhile, which means you need to spend over $240 on camping at KOA campgrounds for your 10% discount. With some KOAs that will only take a week, but for most it is around 10 nights or so. The most nights we have stayed at KOA is 8 in one year and most years it is zero or one night.
I will say we have been treated well in some of those KOAs. I especially remember the one in Clayton, NM where I borrowed tools from the owner and the Grand Island, NE KOA for being good folks. The Seattle-Tacoma KOA is not one I like, very tight sites, expensive and not that helpful. The rest were good campgrounds.

We are like Fred and others that find KOAs overpriced and stay at them rarely. The ones we did stay at we OK.

I got a Rewards Kard because I was staying several times at a KOA to be near a terminally ill relative, who passed away while I was camped the first time. Dave and I returned there a few times afterwards.

The Value Kard has paid for itself and the park was really nice, as were everyone who worked there...and the other campers!

I agree that some KOAs are more maintained and "better" than others, no doubt about it.

As I was initially staying at the above KOA on my own and it was the only game in town, I did not mind paying a bit more for what I got in return...feeling safe as a female solo camper, the caring nature of the workers when finding out why I was there, and the cleanliness and amenities.

Personal preference and also perhaps what is needed at a particular time.

I avoid KOA because I don't think they are worth the money. If you want to save some bucks on a campground you cannot beat Pass Port America. Some of their campgrounds leave a lot to be desired but some are very nice at !/2 price. Of the few KOA's that I have been to, not any better than anyone else.

In 10 years of full-timing, we have NEVER stayed at a KOA. There are always so many other options. Once again, "Passport America" can't be beat for value, but a few of their parks are for "overnight only" while on the road to another destination.

I work at a KOA.

If you are going to be there on a weekly basis or monthly, you will get a set, discounted rate and will not be able to use your rewards card.....if you are moving around and staying one or two nights, yes, it will be worth the $24 investment.

We have a KOA Value Card, since my company pays for our Campsites, I do not worry too much about cost but getting the points for a free site when I am on MY Time is good.

I would agree, most KOAs are not great CGs, just pretty average at a pretty high price for what you get.

Usually nice people running them and great folks working there.

There are a couple of KOAs we use frequently due to location close to where we need to be for work or family.

If I was paying out of my pocket, I would probably look elsewhere for a better deal

Scrappy specifically "quoted" Luvbytes, thus the assumption that her comment was for them. However, I still acknowledged that the information would likely be good. The only other issue is that it can be a problem on forums when people bring up old posts. Sometimes the information that was given in older posts is not valid anymore.
