Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello. We have a 2008 Diplomat 40SKQ. We plan to tow a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The plan is tow with all wheels down in order to maintain even tire wear (because of the AWD transmission); I'm open to using a dolly if you have additional perspective.
Do you have any suggestions for a tow bar system? I've seen a lot of brands (e.g., Blue Ox, Demco, etc.), but I'd like to learn from your experiences. Also, any recommendations regarding a braking system for the Jeep would be appreciated.
I'm not familiar with the Jeep, but your owners manual should tell you if it's towable 4 down. Maybe someone else on the forum can help.
As for Tow Bars, We have used a Roadmaster for the last 12 years, and have had very good service out it them. We just bought a new one because the old was was getting very worn. The old one had well over 100,000 towing miles on it, and we probably could have had it rebuilt, but went with the new one instead.
To me it seems like Roadmaster and Blue Ox are the 2 brands that most RVers use, but that's not to say that there's anything wrong with the other brands.

We tow our Jeep with the Blue Ox. It helped that we had the tow bar, and only had to purchase the base plate for our particular Jeep.
Be SURE and check if YOUR Jeep is towable! Not all are. Blue Ox can tell you if it is or not.
Blue Ox also likes for you to bring your towbar to them when you can and they go though it and check it out.. at no cost. They did ours and told us to tell other customers of this service.
We are also happy with our Blue Ox tow bar but also agree that Roadmaster makes good ones also. Blue Ox is very helpful, goes to many large rallies and has a free campground in Nebraska by the plant.
We bought a Brake Buddy Vantage Select braking system last summer and are very happy with it. The current price is $1085 with free shipping from PPL Motorhomes is $2 less than we paid. It works for us and the only installation was running the breakaway and that took me less than an hour. Since you have a diesel motorhome with air brakes you might be happiest with a braking system that connects to those brakes, like M & G Engineering's System. That does require more installation. With such a system your Jeep brakes will go on with the motorhome brakes. We had used braking systems from Blue Ox before, but our experience is that braking systems are not their strong suit. When we went for a new system when the old one died we decided we wanted to modify our 2002 CRV as little as possible since we plan on replacing it in a couple years. If the CRV was newer we would have thought of installing the M &G system, which is something I would pay someone else to do based on my skills.
