Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Signing in from Colorado

Good Morning, I wanted to introduce myself and my husband Ron.  We are both 50 and are getting ready to start full timing in hopefully the next 3-5 years. Just last month we drove up to South Dakota and purchased a 2004 Keystone Everest 5th Wheel which we love. We brought it home and it has sat in its own designated parking spot for almost a month, just waiting for us to start enjoying it.

Yesterday the weather was nice and sunny so we went out and spent the day cleaning, and just exploring every inch of it. We had extension cords going from the big garage so we could vacuum and the radio was going when all of a sudden my husband said "Why are we using long extension cords when we have electricity hooked up?" Duh!!! We just sat there and laughed, this will definintely be an adventure!

As the day went on and the sun started to go down over the mountains we sat in the living room area and pretended we had already started our new life. Koa, our 90 pound dog, had already claimed her spot on the floor. Together we watched the mountains change color and Ron turned on the heater. I curled up on the recliner and read a book, just for pleasure. He actually took a nap in the other recliner. As sunset turned to night I closed the blinds and just settled into the quietness surrounding us. About an hour later Ron woke up and set up the DVD player and we watched a wild animal video. We were in heaven!

Soon my cell phone started buzzing with texts. Our 18 year old daughter Sara had come home and wondered where we were. I told her in the 5th Wheel come on out. She did and couldn't believe us sitting in there watching T.V. She asked if we were playing house and we said yes!!  She went back to the "real" house.  We finally went back to the brick house a little after midnight.

If yesterday is anything at all like full timing is going to be we cannot wait! It's nice to meet everyone and happy trails to us all!!! smile

Welcome to the forum, Paula!  I'm in Colorado too, Denver area.  Sounds like you had a wonderful evening in your 5th wheel, just one of many wonderful evenings to come!  I look forward to reading about your adventures.  Are you in the Denver area also?

Welcome Paula! RVing with mountain views sounds great (even if it's just in the driveway)! It's really amazing how fun and peaceful it can be to escape to your driveway RV campground whenever you need a break from the pressures of daily sticks-and-bricks life. I do it all the time!

Welcome Paula! We are relative newcomers to this forum as well. :) I laughed when I read your post and read it to my husband - because I can see us doing the exact same thing when we get our fifth wheel!! We are looking to begin our fulltiming in life in about 7 years so we will be a little behind you. But I'm discovering the planning and research is a pleasure in itself. :)

Paula, when I read your post it brought back warm memories of when we first got our fifth wheel, and I was out there organizing things.  My constant sidekick, Brody the Bichon, was relaxing in a chair watching.  It was a beautiful summer day, with shadows dancing from the sun shining through the trees. I decided Brody had the right idea .... next thing I knew I was dozing in a recliner next to him.   Dreams of wonderful days to come!

We've since traded the fiver for a motorhome, sold the farm, downsized to a small apartment, and we are traveling to our hearts content!  Not quite full timing yet -- but you never know!

Good luck, and enjoy that fifth wheel!  Sounds like you've got a head start on it!

Welcome, Welcome!!  Surely happy to see you join us!  You'll find this Forum very friendly, supportive and knowledgeable!!

I can't explain it, but sitting in the RV in your own drive really has a sense of "sigh".... smile   One just sits back and chills out.

I got a giggle out of your hooking up the extension cords needlessly...

I'm fairly new to the Forum too.... so we'll just "grow together" and enjoy all the neat members on here.

Happy RVing!

Joella

Hello Cindy,

We are actually about three hours south of you off of I-25 in a very small town along the front range.  We will usually get to Denver about 3 times a year, it's just too busy. But I love the Water Park!!  Also enjoy the restaurants, a lot to choose from!

Nice to meet you,

Paula

Paula,

I'm not sure what you consider a small town, but it sounds like you are down around Walsenburg or Trinidad.  Now, if you were talking really small, it might be Aquilar.

Jo and I have camped since 1976 in the Purgatoire River Campground, Blue and Bear Lake Campgrounds and in that area.  We are quite familiar with La Veta and Cuchara as well.

Anyway, welcome to the forums.  You will find many helpful people here (and maybe a few little stinkers) and they all have some degree of knowledge to enhance our own knowledge.

Feel free to ask questions.  I've been doing it for nearly 2 years here on the forums and have learned a lot.  And, I still have a lot to learn.

Terry

We were where you are about 4 years ago. We have been fulltiming for 2 1/2 years now so our play house is now our "real" house and the sticks and bricks house is a memory. We love this lifestyle as we travel all over the country. Enjoy the anticipation and planning for the future. It is a dream that can come true. It did for us.

Hello PAULA AND RON,

What a fun story. I'm new to the forum as well and also some time away from being on the road. We don't have a rig to hang out in! Wish we did. Have fun playing house. It will keep you young at heart.

Welcome Paul and Ron
I loved your story. Definitely sounds like something we would do.

We have relatives in Colorado (Denver and Colorado Springs), and plan to visit there when we start full-timing.

I feel new here myself, as I've been away from the forum for awhile and just came back. Have really enjoyed catching up.

Anyway, welcome aboard!

Hello all and thank you for being so welcoming to us. Once again it is the week end and we are out in our rig watching a movie. Last week end Ron had me driving our big Dodge with the 5th wheel attached. I know I have to be comfortable once we start taking off so I drove up to an empty warehouse with a large parking lot and we began my driving lessons. It wasn't as hard as I thought but in no way am I ready to be driving in public yet. Or should I say driving forward isn't that hard, backing up is a little more tricky!

Terry and Jo we are not quite as far South as Walsenburg, we are right at the foot of the Greenhorn Mountain if you are familiar with that area. Quite a bit prettier then Walsenburg I think!

It's really nice to know there are so many friendly people out there, and I am so glad I signed on here.

Paula
